Suguru Getou

As a student, Getou is calm, polite, thoughtful, and considerably more concerned with moral principles than Gojou. He believes that jujutsu exists to protect non-sorcerers and repeatedly reminds Gojou that strength should be exercised according to ethical responsibilities rather than personal whim.

He has a natural ability to lead people. Even after leaving Jujutsu High, Getou surrounds himself with curse users who treat him less like an employer than the head of a family. He is patient with the people he accepts as fellow sorcerers, particularly the young girls he rescues, while becoming deliberately contemptuous toward ordinary humans.

His technique contributes materially to his deterioration. Every cursed spirit he acquires must be compressed into a ball and swallowed, an experience he describes as comparable to ingesting a rag used to clean vomit. The official fanbook lists swallowing cursed spirits as his principal source of stress.

Getou's ideology hardens around the belief that non-sorcerers are responsible for generating curses while sorcerers are forced to die cleaning up the consequences. Once he embraces that premise completely, he refers to ordinary humans as "monkeys" and rationalizes mass killing as the necessary route to eliminating cursed spirits.

Getou is one of only four modern sorcerers classified as special grade in the period covered by the official fanbook. He combines excellent cursed-energy manipulation and martial skill with a technique capable of increasing in scale every time he captures another curse.

Cursed Spirit Manipulation allows him to absorb cursed spirits he has defeated or otherwise brought under control. The curses are compressed into black spheres that he consumes, after which they can be summoned and commanded freely. When Getou overwhelmingly outclasses a curse by grade, he can absorb it without first satisfying a more complicated submission process.

His collection includes spirits with very different abilities, allowing Getou to overwhelm opponents through numbers, select specialized curses for particular situations, fly using curses, transport people, and create layered attacks. He accumulates thousands of spirits before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Getou is also a skilled martial artist. His official profile lists martial arts as his special skill, and he can pressure close-range fighters while simultaneously deploying curses.

Maximum: Uzumaki condenses a large quantity of controlled curses into a single concentrated cursed-energy attack. Getou uses thousands of curses for his strongest version against Yuuta.

Getou first appears chronologically as one of Jujutsu High's strongest students. He and Gojou are assigned to protect Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel intended to merge with Master Tengen.

The mission exposes both students to Touji Fushiguro, whose assassination plan dismantles the confidence of the supposedly unbeatable pair. Riko is killed, Gojou is nearly killed before awakening to a much higher level of power, and Getou is forced to confront the limits of the moral framework by which he has lived.

Over the following year, Getou becomes increasingly isolated. Gojou can now perform missions alone, while Getou continues absorbing curses and witnessing sorcerers die for people who neither know nor appreciate them.

Yuki Tsukumo's discussion of eliminating cursed spirits by addressing their source gives Getou a framework for thinking about the relationship between non-sorcerers and cursed energy. She does not endorse killing ordinary humans, but the possibility that a world of sorcerers would no longer generate uncontrolled curses remains with him.

After discovering two young sorcerers, Mimiko and Nanako, imprisoned and abused by villagers, Getou massacres the entire settlement, kills his own non-sorcerer parents, and abandons Jujutsu High.

Years later, he leads a religious organization and gathers curse users around himself. In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Getou launches the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons as a diversion while he attacks Yuuta directly to seize Rika.

Yuuta defeats Getou, and Gojou finds his former friend badly wounded afterward. Getou dies following their final private conversation.

Satoru Gojou is Getou's closest friend and former classmate. They once call themselves "the strongest" together, but Getou's ideological collapse separates them and ultimately places them on opposite sides of jujutsu society.

Shouko Ieiri is Getou's other classmate and part of the original Tokyo trio.

Riko Amanai is the Star Plasma Vessel whom Getou and Gojou are ordered to protect. Her death becomes one of the central traumas preceding Getou's ideological deterioration.

Touji Fushiguro defeats Getou during the Star Plasma Vessel mission and demonstrates how completely the apparently invincible students can be outmaneuvered.

Yuki Tsukumo discusses the causes of cursed spirits with Getou and inadvertently gives him a theoretical basis for imagining a world without non-sorcerers.

Mimiko Hasaba and Nanako Hasaba are young sorcerers Getou rescues from abusive villagers and raises within his chosen family.

Miguel, Larue, Manami Suda, and Toshihisa Negi are among the curse users who follow Getou.

Yuuta Okkotsu becomes Getou's principal target because of Rika's extraordinary power and ultimately his opponent during Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
