Yuuta Okkotsu

Yuuta begins as anxious, withdrawn, and frightened of his own existence. Years of Rika violently protecting him have isolated him from other children and convinced him that getting close to people will only place them in danger. His initial reason for entering Jujutsu High is therefore not ambition but a desire to understand whether he deserves to continue living.

His classmates gradually draw out a much more assertive personality. Yuuta is naturally compassionate and readily places himself in danger for people he cares about, but his gentleness should not be confused with passivity. Threatening his friends can provoke an abrupt change in demeanor, and his willingness to kill an enemy becomes frighteningly direct when he believes it is necessary to protect someone.

He also has unusual humility for someone with exceptional power. Yuuta openly acknowledges his weaknesses, asks more experienced people for help, and rarely treats his special-grade status as a reason to place himself above other sorcerers. Even after gaining confidence, his greatest personal stress in the official fanbook is simply being unable to see his classmates.

Later experience makes him calmer and more decisive without eliminating that empathy. After returning from training overseas, Yuuta is willing to shoulder morally difficult assignments and place himself at the center of plans against Kenjaku and Sukuna, but repeatedly structures those plans around reducing the burden on his friends.

Yuuta possesses one of the largest cursed-energy reserves in the series. His cursed energy is so abundant that he can reinforce his body to compensate for relatively ordinary natural physical strength, producing enormous striking power, durability, and speed. Even experienced sorcerers immediately recognize the unsettling quantity of energy surrounding him.

Rika provides Yuuta with external cursed-energy storage and access to weapons and copied techniques. In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the original Rika manifests as an exceptionally powerful special-grade vengeful cursed spirit whose strength is tied to Yuuta's emotional bond with her.

Yuuta can use reverse cursed technique at an unusually advanced level. He is capable not only of healing himself but of outputting positive energy into other people, a difficult ability possessed by very few sorcerers. Because positive energy is especially destructive to cursed spirits, that output can also function offensively against them.

His innate technique is Copy. By fulfilling conditions connected to Rika and a target technique, Yuuta can reproduce other sorcerers' abilities. Known examples include Cursed Speech and several techniques acquired later in the manga. The fully manifested Rika can remain connected to Yuuta for approximately five minutes, during which he can access stored cursed energy, cursed tools, and copied techniques at full capacity.

Yuuta later demonstrates Domain Expansion: Authentic Mutual Love, which places copied techniques into swords scattered throughout the domain while allowing one chosen copied technique to function as its sure-hit effect.

Yuuta's story begins when Rika seriously injures classmates who bully him. Jujutsu authorities identify him as a special-grade cursed victim and initially intend to execute him, but Gojou intervenes and brings him to Tokyo Jujutsu High instead.

Training with Maki, Inumaki, and Panda gradually teaches Yuuta that he can form relationships without simply endangering everyone around him. His missions also reveal that Rika's extraordinary strength can be directed rather than merely feared.

Suguru Getou recognizes Rika's potential and targets Yuuta during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. Getou believes acquiring Rika would dramatically increase his chances of defeating jujutsu society.

Yuuta ultimately defeats Getou by offering his own life to Rika in exchange for removing the limits on her power. Afterward, Gojou helps him understand that Rika did not curse him when she died; Yuuta unconsciously cursed Rika because he could not accept losing her. Recognizing this allows the original Rika Orimoto's soul to pass on peacefully.

Yuuta subsequently studies abroad in Africa with Miguel before returning to Japan. Following the Shibuya Incident, he publicly accepts an order to execute Yuuji Itadori, but this is a deception coordinated with Gojou's allies. Yuuta kills Yuuji only long enough to satisfy the binding-vow requirement and immediately revives him with reverse cursed technique.

During the Culling Game, Yuuta enters Sendai Colony and defeats a concentration of elite ancient and modern sorcerers, including Uro and Ishigori. He later helps formulate the plan against Kenjaku and eventually kills him after Takaba creates the required opening.

In the battle against Sukuna, Yuuta joins the fight inside his domain and later takes an extreme contingency measure by using Kenjaku's technique to temporarily inhabit Gojou's body after Gojou's defeat, attempting to use Limitless against Sukuna.

Rika Orimoto is Yuuta's childhood friend and the person around whom his early life revolves. Their childhood promise to marry becomes entangled with the curse created after her death. Yuuta eventually learns that his inability to accept her death bound Rika to him rather than Rika deliberately cursing him.

Satoru Gojou prevents Yuuta's execution, enrolls him at Jujutsu High, and becomes his principal mentor. Gojou later names Yuuta among the students he believes could eventually reach his own level.

Maki Zenin is Yuuta's classmate and one of the first people to force him out of his passivity. He admires her resolve and explicitly tells her that he wants to become someone like her.

Toge Inumaki becomes a close friend after Yuuta initially misunderstands his limited speech. Their first mission together teaches Yuuta how considerate Inumaki actually is.

Panda is another close classmate who recognizes Yuuta's feelings and encourages him socially.

Miguel becomes Yuuta's instructor during his period abroad after initially serving under Getou.

Suguru Getou targets Yuuta because he wants Rika's power and becomes the principal antagonist of Yuuta's first major story.

Yuuji Itadori initially encounters Yuuta as an apparent executioner. Yuuta is actually protecting him under a private agreement and later becomes one of Yuuji's strongest allies.

Kinji Hakari is another upperclassman whom Yuuta considers exceptionally powerful, even making the controversial claim that Hakari can surpass him when fully motivated.
