Kento Nanami

Nanami is serious, disciplined, blunt, and deeply skeptical of institutions that exploit people's labor. His years in corporate employment leave him with little romanticism about either office work or jujutsu; he returns to sorcery because helping someone through dangerous work feels slightly more meaningful than creating wealth for investors.

He treats jujutsu like employment. Missions have objectives, hours should be controlled, inexperienced workers should not be exposed unnecessarily, and emotional displays should not replace competent decision-making.

That professionalism makes him particularly protective of children. Nanami refuses to treat Yuuji as an adult simply because his unusual circumstances have pushed him into dangerous work and repeatedly tries to keep him away from situations requiring more experienced sorcerers.

His reserve hides considerable compassion. A seemingly minor interaction with a bakery employee becomes the moment that convinces him jujutsu can provide immediate, tangible help to ordinary people in ways his corporate career never did.

Nanami has little patience for Gojou's personality but respects his capabilities. The contrast makes Nanami a different kind of mentor for Yuuji: predictable where Gojou is eccentric, explicit where Gojou expects students to learn through experience.

Nanami is an exemplary Grade 1 sorcerer, the rank used as the professional standard for those capable of completing dangerous missions independently. He possesses strong cursed-energy reinforcement, excellent physical conditioning, tactical judgment, and extensive practical experience.

Ratio Technique divides any target into ten conceptual segments and creates a weak point at the seven-to-three division. Striking that point produces a critical hit regardless of whether it corresponds to a natural structural weakness.

The technique can be applied to living targets and inanimate objects. Nanami can therefore collapse structures or create new weak points in terrain when a direct attack is inconvenient.

His primary weapon is a blunt sword wrapped in cloth. Because Ratio creates a vulnerability independently of conventional sharpness, Nanami does not need an exposed cutting edge to inflict severe damage.

Overtime is a binding vow tied to his normal working hours. Nanami restricts the amount of cursed energy he can access while officially on duty; once those hours end, the restriction lifts and his output increases beyond its normal baseline.

Collapse extends Ratio to the environment, allowing Nanami to designate weak points across a larger structure and destroy it strategically.

Nanami has also experienced Black Flash and at one time held the recorded consecutive Black Flash achievement before Yuuji's generation began producing unusual results.

Nanami is assigned to investigate a series of deaths associated with Mahito and takes Yuuji with him as an assistant. Their partnership gives Yuuji his first sustained experience working under a Grade 1 sorcerer rather than Gojou.

Nanami discovers that several apparent curses are actually humans transformed by Idle Transfiguration. The revelation immediately changes the moral and tactical nature of the investigation.

He eventually confronts Mahito underground and learns that ordinary damage cannot reliably kill him because Mahito preserves the shape of his soul.

Yuuji later joins the confrontation, and his ability to strike Mahito's soul gives the pair a realistic way to pressure him. Mahito responds by using Domain Expansion.

Nanami continues working as one of Jujutsu High's dependable senior sorcerers and becomes a benchmark against which younger students evaluate professional ability.

During the Shibuya Incident, he leads and supports multiple groups while attempting to locate Gojou and rescue trapped civilians. He survives several extremely dangerous encounters and continues fighting despite accumulating serious injuries.

Jougo burns Nanami severely, but Nanami remains mobile long enough to continue killing transfigured humans inside Shibuya Station. Exhausted and hallucinating the quiet life he once imagined in Malaysia, he encounters Yuuji shortly before Mahito kills him with Idle Transfiguration. His final words entrust the rest to Yuuji.

Yuuji Itadori is Nanami's principal student-like relationship. Nanami initially refuses to call him a full sorcerer but gradually recognizes his growth and ultimately trusts him deeply.

Satoru Gojou is Nanami's senior from Jujutsu High and someone he finds personally exhausting. Despite complaining about him, Nanami trusts Gojou's power and judgment in matters affecting the students.

Yuu Haibara is Nanami's classmate during their student years and provides an optimistic counterweight to Nanami's naturally pessimistic temperament. Haibara's death during a mission strongly contributes to Nanami's disillusionment with jujutsu work.

Shouko Ieiri is an older school acquaintance who treats Nanami and other injured sorcerers.

Mahito becomes Nanami's principal curse opponent. Nanami's inability to directly perceive and damage Mahito's soul makes their match fundamentally unfavorable.

Takuma Ino admires Nanami intensely and uses his approval as a personal benchmark for becoming a Grade 1 sorcerer.

Haruta Shigemo attacks younger assistants in Shibuya and receives one of Nanami's most overwhelming displays of physical dominance.
