Juri Maki

Juri is confident, glamorous and accustomed to being the central figure in her professional circle. She personally asks Kogoro Mouri for assistance after receiving Kaitou Kid's advance notice and invites his companions to attend the final performance of Josephine.

Her relationships behind the scenes are considerably more contentious. She exercises influence over director Tooru Ban, treats manager Masayo Yaguchi harshly and has complicated histories with several members of the cast.

Juri has also recently taken up diving. Her beginner-level need to equalize pressure by pinching her nose becomes a seemingly insignificant personal habit with unexpected importance during the flight to Hakodate.

Juri is a successful professional actress capable of carrying the title role in a major stage production. Her prominence is sufficient for the Jewel of Destiny and Kid's challenge to become part of the publicity surrounding Josephine.

She previously worked for Sky Japan Airlines and retains acquaintances among its flight crews. The film does not establish that she was a pilot; her aviation connection is through her earlier employment with the airline.

As a novice diver, Juri has learned basic pressure-equalization techniques. Her habit of pinching her nose to clear her ears becomes the mechanism through which poison placed in her foundation is transferred onto her fingers.

Juri receives a cryptic advance notice from Kaitou Kid announcing his intention to steal her Star Sapphire. She approaches Kogoro Mouri for help, drawing Conan Edogawa and the police into the attempt to decipher Kid's message and protect the jewel.

After the performance, Juri and her associates board Flight 865 for Hakodate. Her connections with the other passengers soon become more important than the attempted jewel theft.

Juri is poisoned during the flight and dies after eating chocolate. Conan eventually discovers that the chocolate itself is harmless: cyanide had been mixed into foundation applied to Juri's nose by Natsuki Sakai. Juri transfers the poison to her fingers while equalizing her ears and then ingests it when she licks chocolate residue from them.

Natsuki's motive exposes how Juri treated the people around her. Juri had secretly interfered with Natsuki's opportunity to pursue a Hollywood career because she wanted to keep the talented stylist working for her.

Natsuki Sakai is Juri's hairstylist and makeup artist. [Juri Maki prevents Natsuki Sakai from accepting an important Hollywood opportunity because she wants to retain her services, prompting Natsuki's eventual revenge.](#spoiler)

Masayo Yaguchi is Juri's manager. Juri frequently criticizes Masayo Yaguchi, including in front of other people.

Bunjiro Narusawa is Juri's former husband. They divorced three years earlier, and [Bunjiro Narusawa still wants to reconcile with her, but Juri rejects his attempts to remarry.](#spoiler)

Isao Shinjo is Juri's younger boyfriend and co-star. [Juri has already grown tired of Isao Shinjo and privately asks Natsuki to introduce her to another attractive younger man.](#spoiler)

Tenko Tajima is Juri's longtime friend and fellow actress. Tenko Tajima is also married to Tooru Ban, creating further tension around Juri's influence over him.

Kaitou Kid targets Juri's Jewel of Destiny and sends her an advance notice before the final performance of Josephine.

Kogoro Mouri is hired by Juri to help protect the sapphire, while Conan Edogawa independently works to understand Kaitou Kid's plan.
