Tooru Ban

Ban presents himself as a professional and courteous leader of the theatrical company, introducing himself without hesitation when Kogoro Mouri and the others meet the cast. His position suggests authority, but the company's internal dynamics are less straightforward than his title implies.

Although Ban originally helped Juri Maki develop her career, Juri has gained enough influence that she effectively controls many decisions surrounding the production. Natsuki Sakai notes that Ban has been forced to defer to her, a situation that has also caused arguments with his wife.

Ban is an experienced theatre professional who combines acting with directing and production responsibilities. He performs the role of Paul Barras in Josephine while also overseeing the stage production.

He has no established combat or investigative abilities. When the situation aboard the flight to Hakodate becomes an emergency, he instead assists with practical tasks, including helping move the incapacitated pilots so they can receive medical treatment.

Ban is introduced with the principal cast of Josephine while Ginzo Nakamori prepares security around Juri's Star Sapphire. Because Kaitou Kid is known for disguising himself, Ban and the other members of the production initially have to be considered possible disguises or sources of information for the thief.

Ban later joins the company on its flight to Hakodate. After Juri is poisoned, Natsuki points to Ban's deteriorating authority within the company as a possible motive: he had once nurtured Juri's career, only to find himself increasingly forced to obey the actress he helped make successful.

Ban is not responsible for Juri's poisoning. Natsuki is ultimately exposed as the culprit, while Ban helps the other passengers deal with the subsequent crisis after both pilots are incapacitated by secondary exposure to the poison.

Tenko Tajima is Ban's wife and a member of the same theatrical company. Tenko Tajima has criticized the way her husband has become subordinate to Juri Maki.

Natsuki Sakai works with Ban as Juri Maki's stylist and knows about the tensions within the theatrical company.
