Personality
Personality
Shinjo is charming and openly affectionate toward Juri Maki. His theatrical personality extends beyond the stage: when arriving to meet the company, he kisses Juri's sapphire ring and apologizes to his "Josephine," referring to their respective roles in the production.
His relaxed behavior fits comfortably within the close-knit theatrical company, although the complicated relationships surrounding Juri mean that he becomes relevant when suspicion falls on the people closest to her.
Shinjo's characterization during much of the film is deliberately complicated by deception. The man who accompanies the group to Hakodate is actually Kaitou Kid disguised as Shinjo, while the real Shinjo has remained behind.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Shinjo is a professional actor capable of performing a major role in the stage production Josephine. His career requires stage presence and the ability to perform within a professional theatrical ensemble.
No combat, investigative or supernatural abilities are established for the real Shinjo. Several impressive actions associated with his appearance during the flight actually belong to Kaitou Kid, who is impersonating him, and should therefore not be treated as Shinjo's own abilities.
This distinction is particularly important because Kid's mastery of disguise allows him to reproduce Shinjo's appearance and manner convincingly enough to fool people who know the actor personally.
Story Role
Story Role
Shinjo performs Hippolyte Charles in Josephine alongside Juri Maki, Bunjiro Narusawa, Tenko Tajima and Toru Ban. After Kaitou Kid announces his intention to steal Juri's sapphire, the theatrical group becomes the focus of Conan Edogawa's attention.
A man appearing to be Shinjo later accompanies the group aboard the flight to Hakodate. His presence places him among the possible suspects when a poisoning occurs during the journey.
The apparent Shinjo on the aircraft is actually Kaitou Kid in disguise. Kid uses Shinjo's identity to remain close to Juri and her sapphire while evading Conan's attempts to identify him. The real Shinjo does not accompany the group in that capacity.
Once the impersonation is recognized, actions performed by "Shinjo" aboard the aircraft become part of Kid's role in the story rather than evidence concerning the real actor.
Relationships
Relationships
Juri Maki is Shinjo's co-star and lover. He plays Hippolyte Charles opposite Juri Maki's Josephine and affectionately refers to her by her character's name.
Bunjiro Narusawa, Tenko Tajima and Toru Ban work with Shinjo in the same theatrical production.
Kaitou Kid chooses Shinjo as a disguise during his attempt to obtain Juri Maki's Star Sapphire. [Kaitou Kid's impersonation is convincing enough that the people traveling with the troupe accept him as Shinjo for much of the flight.](#spoiler)
Conan Edogawa is initially forced to consider the apparent Shinjo while trying to determine where Kaitou Kid has hidden himself among the people surrounding the sapphire.
