Masayo Yaguchi

Masayo is attentive to Juri Maki's needs and generally performs her duties without challenging the actress directly. She brings Juri's Jewel of Destiny when requested and accompanies her throughout the theatre company's travel arrangements.

Her working environment is not particularly comfortable. Juri considers Masayo slow and frequently reprimands her in front of other people, giving Masayo a plausible source of resentment when investigators later examine the relationships surrounding the actress.

Masayo becomes visibly defensive when suspicion falls on her. She insists that the chocolate she provides aboard the plane was purchased normally and had only just been opened.

Masayo is a professional talent manager responsible for assisting a prominent actress with schedules, travel and personal requirements. Her familiarity with Juri's habits allows her to anticipate many of the actress's needs.

She has no established combat or investigative abilities. Her importance during the mystery derives instead from her close access to Juri and the objects Juri handles.

Masayo accompanies Juri Maki when the actress asks Kogoro Mouri for help protecting the Jewel of Destiny from Kaitou Kid. She remains with Juri through the theatre performance and subsequent journey to Hakodate.

When Juri collapses shortly after taking chocolate from Masayo, suspicion immediately falls on the manager. Masayo insists that she bought the chocolates from their usual Ginza shop and opened the package only on the aircraft.

The apparent connection proves misleading. Conan establishes that the chocolates were not poisoned and that Natsuki Sakai instead used Juri's makeup to deliver cyanide. Masayo's proximity to the victim makes her a natural suspect, but she is not responsible for the poisoning.

Juri Maki is Masayo's employer. Masayo manages her professional affairs despite Juri Maki's habit of criticizing her publicly.

Natsuki Sakai works alongside Masayo as Juri Maki's hairstylist and makeup artist. [Natsuki Sakai initially helps broaden suspicion away from Masayo by explaining that several people around Juri have motives against her, before being exposed as the actual culprit.](#spoiler)

Kogoro Mouri becomes involved with Juri's group after the actress asks him to protect her sapphire from Kaitou Kid.

Conan Edogawa investigates the poisoning and determines that the chocolate supplied by Masayo was not the delivery method.
