Grunbeld

Grunbeld is proud, disciplined and intensely martial. Unlike Apostles motivated primarily by appetite or sadism, he places great value on courage and worthy combat.

He is deeply loyal to Griffith and accepts his position as a commander in the reborn Band of the Hawk without the ambiguity displayed by figures such as Rakshas.

Grunbeld's sense of warrior honor can make him frustrated when circumstances deny him the duel he expects. He respects strength and regards fighting a compromised opponent as less satisfying than defeating someone at full capacity.

Grunbeld possesses extraordinary strength even before transforming. His warhammer delivers devastating blows, while his heavy shield functions both defensively and as a firearm containing a concealed cannon.

His Apostle form resembles a huge four-legged dragon. Its exterior is covered with corundum-like crystalline formations harder than steel, giving him exceptional resistance to conventional attacks.

He can breathe intense flames and use his immense mass in direct charges. The combination of armor, fire and raw strength makes him one of the reborn Band of the Hawk's most formidable close-combat Apostles.

Grunbeld appears among the powerful warriors gathering around Griffith following his return to the physical world. He becomes one of the commanders leading Apostle forces against the Kushan Empire.

He encounters Guts at Flora's Spirit Tree mansion after Griffith's forces target the witch and her sanctuary.

Grunbeld overwhelms the already injured Guts until the Berserker Armor activates. The armor allows Guts to continue fighting despite catastrophic physical damage and gives him enough power to break Grunbeld's crystalline defenses. Flora's intervention ultimately helps Guts and his companions escape rather than completing the duel.

Grunbeld later serves Griffith in major battles against Ganishka's forces and remains among the military elite of the reborn Band of the Hawk.

Griffith is Grunbeld's commander and the leader to whom he pledges his martial strength.

Guts becomes Grunbeld's most significant demonstrated opponent. Their battle forces Guts into one of his earliest and most dangerous uses of the Berserker Armor.

Flora becomes an enemy when Griffith's forces attack her Spirit Tree mansion.

Zodd, Locus, Irvine and Rakshas are Grunbeld's fellow Apostle commanders in Griffith's reborn Band of the Hawk.

Ganishka is an enemy of Griffith's forces during the Kushan war.
