Irvine

Irvine is quiet, solitary and contemplative. Unlike many Apostles, he displays little appetite for cruelty and does not define himself through the slaughter of weaker beings. Hunting interests him more than indiscriminate killing.

He prefers sleeping outdoors to remaining in the military camp, suggesting that his allegiance to Griffith has not erased his independent habits. Music is one of his few established personal pleasures.

Irvine is particularly patient with Sonia. Her constant talking and intrusive curiosity rarely seem to irritate him, and he responds to her with understated warmth.

Irvine possesses extraordinary archery skill. He can fire multiple arrows simultaneously with extreme precision and strike enemies at distances that would be difficult even for conventional master archers. His arrows hit with enough force to tear through bodies or decapitate targets.

His Apostle transformation merges his upper body with a massive horned wolf-like creature. The horns function as a gigantic bow, while hairs taken from his tail become supernatural arrows.

These projectiles become branching masses of spikes after striking their targets, allowing a single shot to devastate groups of enemies. Irvine can therefore function almost like living artillery while retaining the precision of an expert marksman.

Irvine joins Griffith after his incarnation and becomes one of the principal War Demon commanders in the reborn Band of the Hawk. His long-range attacks complement Locus's cavalry, Grunbeld's overwhelming frontal power and Rakshas's infiltration abilities.

He participates extensively in the campaign against the Kushan forces, eliminating enemies from distances at which they cannot effectively retaliate.

During the confrontation with Ganishka's enormous transformed body, Sonia rides on Irvine's Apostle form while coordinating the forces through her psychic abilities. Their combination allows Irvine to deliver devastating attacks while Sonia guides the broader assault.

Griffith is Irvine's commander and the leader to whom he has pledged his supernatural abilities.

Sonia develops the closest visible personal relationship with Irvine. She seeks him out at his isolated camp, talks openly with him and later rides his transformed body in battle.

Locus, Grunbeld and Rakshas are Irvine's fellow Apostle commanders within the reborn Band of the Hawk.

Schierke briefly encounters Irvine indirectly through her friendship with Sonia during the events in Vritannis.
