Flora

Flora is patient, compassionate and extraordinarily perceptive. She teaches Schierke with warmth but does not shield her from the responsibilities that accompany magical knowledge. Her lessons emphasize understanding and coexistence with the astral world rather than domination over it.

She also recognizes the significance of Guts and his companions quickly. Rather than treating the branded swordsman with suspicion, Flora understands that his path has brought him into circumstances where conventional weapons and knowledge are no longer sufficient.

Her friendship with the Skull Knight reveals another side of her character. Flora speaks to the ancient warrior with familiarity rather than fear and insists that he retains a human heart despite the strange existence he now leads.

Flora is one of the series' most accomplished human magic users. She understands elemental spirits, astral projection, barriers, protective seals and enchanted objects, and her knowledge forms the foundation of Schierke's own abilities.

She places protective talismans over the Brands of Sacrifice carried by Guts and Casca, reducing the constant attraction of malicious astral beings. She also supplies Guts's companions with enchanted equipment capable of interacting with supernatural creatures.

Flora's connection to the Spirit Tree greatly amplifies the sanctuary surrounding her mansion. She can communicate through astral projection and retain influence beyond the limitations of her physical body.

At the Skull Knight's request, Guts's group travels to Flora's mansion while dealing with the troll infestation around Enoch Village. Flora explains aspects of the astral world that had previously been incomprehensible to the group and provides magical tools needed to fight the trolls.

She also directs Schierke to accompany Guts. The decision forces her young apprentice to leave the secluded world in which she was raised and experience humanity directly.

Griffith sends his Apostle forces to destroy the Spirit Tree. Grunbeld attacks Flora's mansion while Guts and the others attempt to escape, and Flora remains behind as the tree burns. Her physical body dies, but her astral presence continues long enough to protect her companions and later appears again to Schierke.

Schierke is Flora's beloved apprentice. Flora raises and educates her in magic, eventually sending her into the wider world with Guts's group.

Skull Knight is Flora's old friend. Their familiarity suggests a relationship extending far into the past, and Flora believes that the mysterious warrior still possesses a human heart.

Guts receives magical assistance and guidance from Flora. She recognizes the dangerous path surrounding him and entrusts Schierke to his company.

Casca receives one of Flora's protective Brand seals, reducing the nightly danger caused by spirits drawn to her Brand of Sacrifice.

Grunbeld leads the assault on Flora's mansion that results in the destruction of the Spirit Tree and Flora's physical death.

Griffith orders the campaign against Flora and the Spirit Tree as part of the reborn Band of the Hawk's actions.
