To help feed the recovering Human World, Toriko, Komatsu and the other Four Heavenly Kings enter the Gourmet World. Their route through Area 8 immediately exposes them to deadly seas, deceptive landscapes and ecosystems capable of overwhelming even their strengthened party.
The expedition crosses the Thorn Sea aboard Octo-chan, surviving barbed waves, hostile creatures and the Harbor of Evil Spirits. Illusion-producing mist repeatedly deceives the travelers, but the Four Kings’ training allows them to overcome dangers that would once have defeated them. Their progress brings them into contact with Mappy, a Travel Frog sent to guide them through Area 8.
Mappy leads the party across the Golden Swamp and its lethal Steel Clouds to Hex Food World, an ancient civilization populated by descendants of humans transformed through Gourmet Cells. There they meet the ailing Daruma Hermit, who explains that Acacia’s Salad, AIR, is essential to the survival of Area 8. The group divides into four teams to approach the ingredient’s location.
