Naruto Vol. 31

Sasori reveals that nearly his entire body has been converted into a puppet equipped with hidden blades, cables, poison, and elemental weapons. Chiyo responds by summoning ten masterwork puppets created by the legendary puppet maker Monzaemon. Sasori counters with his Red Secret Technique, releasing one hundred human puppets and claiming that he once conquered an entire nation with them.

Sakura and Chiyo gradually destroy Sasori’s army, but Sakura is impaled while protecting Chiyo. After treating Sakura with the last prepared antidote, Chiyo uses puppets modeled after Sasori’s parents to pierce his living core. Sasori appears to recognize the attack but does not evade it. Before dying, he rewards Sakura with information about a spy hidden within Orochimaru’s organization and provides the time and place of their next meeting.

Naruto and Kakashi catch Deidara, and Kakashi uses his newly developed Mangekyō Sharingan to distort space and sever Deidara’s arm. Naruto retrieves Gaara but loses control when he realizes his friend is dead. Deidara escapes by using an explosive clone, though Kakashi transports the blast away with his Mangekyō Sharingan.

Chiyo attempts to revive Gaara using a forbidden technique that exchanges the user’s life for another’s. Naruto supplies his chakra when hers proves insufficient. Gaara returns to life surrounded by the Sand and Leaf shinobi, while Chiyo dies after entrusting the future to the younger generation.
