Tome-san

Tome is serious, diligent, friendly, and proud of the accuracy of his forensic work. He treats evidence carefully and is comfortable explaining his findings to detectives at a crime scene.

Unlike many adults who initially dismiss Conan because of his age, Tome is generally receptive to his questions. Conan sometimes attributes his inquiries to Kogorou, but Tome becomes sufficiently familiar with the boy that their exchanges can be quite direct.

Tome is also a fan of Edogawa Rampo's Boys Detective Club stories and affectionately associates Conan with the young detective Kobayashi from those works.

Tome is an experienced forensic investigator capable of examining fingerprints, blood, weapons, fibres, trace evidence, wounds, broken objects, and other physical material recovered from crime scenes.

His seniority and long experience allow him to recognize older forensic techniques and provide precise information to homicide investigators. He also teaches younger officers practical methods for recovering or interpreting evidence.

Tome does not normally solve the entire case himself. Instead, his forensic results provide the objective physical facts that Conan, Megure, and other investigators use to test their deductions.

Tome appears repeatedly at Tokyo crime scenes, particularly when Megure's First Division is investigating a murder. He often answers questions from Conan concerning evidence already processed by the forensic team.

His role becomes more prominent as the anime develops a recurring police ensemble around Megure, Wataru Takagi, Ninzaburo Shiratori, and Kazunobu Chiba.

Tome also appears in Detective Conan films, including Countdown to Heaven, where his examination of physical evidence helps the police distinguish details of the serial murder investigation.

Juzo Megure regularly relies on Tome and the forensic team to process crime scenes during First Division investigations.

Conan Edogawa frequently questions Tome about forensic findings, and Tome is unusually willing to engage seriously with Conan Edogawa's observations.

Wataru Takagi, Ninzaburo Shiratori, and Kazunobu Chiba work with Tome during Metropolitan Police investigations.

Kogorou Mouri knows Tome through the numerous cases in which the Mouri detective becomes involved with the Tokyo police.
