Kazunobu Chiba

Chiba is friendly, supportive, somewhat easygoing, and less competitive than many of the male officers surrounding Satou. He is one of Takagi's more reliable friends and does not seriously participate in attempts to sabotage Takagi's romantic prospects.

Food is a recurring weakness, and his weight fluctuates noticeably depending on his eating habits. He is also an enthusiastic fan of special-effects hero programs, an interest dating back to childhood.

Despite his comic moments, Chiba takes police work seriously. He can assume responsibility for investigations and responds decisively when suspects become dangerous.

Chiba is a trained police detective experienced in crime-scene work, interviews, evidence gathering, arrests, surveillance, and obtaining information away from the immediate scene.

His physical size can be useful when restraining suspects, while his familiarity with police procedure allows him to support Megure and Takagi during complex investigations.

Chiba also has extensive knowledge of tokusatsu and related entertainment, which occasionally becomes relevant when cases involve television programs, memorabilia, or childhood memories.

Chiba begins as a comparatively minor officer assisting the recurring Metropolitan Police cast. Over time, he receives greater individual focus and becomes a regular member of investigations involving Megure, Takagi, and Miwako Satou.

His personal storyline later introduces traffic officer Naeko Miike. The two were childhood friends who developed feelings for each other, but Chiba initially fails to recognize the adult Naeko as the girl from his past.

After a series of misunderstandings and rediscovered memories, Chiba eventually recognizes Naeko, allowing their long-delayed relationship to progress.

Wataru Takagi is one of Chiba's closest colleagues and friends. Chiba supports Wataru Takagi's relationship with Satou rather than joining the officers trying to interfere.

Juzo Megure is Chiba's superior and regularly assigns him investigative work.

Miwako Satou is a fellow First Division detective and frequent colleague.

Naeko Miike is Chiba's childhood friend and eventual romantic partner. Their childhood promise becomes important after Naeko joins the Metropolitan Police Department and encounters him again.
