Ninzaburo Shiratori

Shiratori is calm, educated, confident, and sometimes conceited. His wealthy upbringing gives him refined tastes that contrast with several of his colleagues, and his knowledge of architecture and wine occasionally becomes useful during investigations.

He takes his police responsibilities seriously but can become competitive when his personal life overlaps with work. For a considerable period, his pursuit of Miwako Satou places him in direct romantic competition with Wataru Takagi.

Beneath his pride is a sincere belief in the ideals represented by the police. The childhood incident that changed his career path remains important because he remembers the girl who taught him to associate the police cherry-blossom emblem with courage.

Shiratori is a trained police inspector experienced in homicide investigations, interrogations, crime-scene analysis, and coordinating with other officers.

His education and upper-class interests give him specialized knowledge that occasionally assists cases. Architecture is one of his strongest subjects, while his familiarity with expensive wines has also allowed him to identify clues that other investigators might overlook.

He is generally more composed than some of the younger detectives around him and is capable of continuing investigations under dangerous circumstances.

Shiratori first appeared in The Time-Bombed Skyscraper before being incorporated into the manga as a recurring Tokyo police officer. Within the main continuity, he becomes one of the inspectors frequently working under or alongside Megure.

His early personal storyline focuses on his belief that Sato is the girl he remembers from childhood. This turns Takagi into his romantic rival and even places Shiratori among officers trying to prevent Sato and Takagi from becoming a couple.

Shiratori eventually discovers that his childhood love was not Sato but Teitan Elementary teacher Sumiko Kobayashi. After recreating the legal intervention that had characterized their childhood meeting, Kobayashi recognizes him, and the two begin a romantic relationship.

Sumiko Kobayashi is revealed to be the girl Shiratori met at the bookstore as a child. Their reunion eventually develops into a mutual romantic relationship.

Miwako Satou is initially the woman Shiratori mistakenly believes to be his childhood love. He pursues Miwako Satou romantically for years before learning the truth.

Wataru Takagi is initially Shiratori's rival for Sato's affection. [After realizing that Kobayashi is his actual childhood love, Shiratori stops opposing the relationship between Wataru Takagi and Miwako Satou.](#spoiler)

Juzo Megure frequently works with Shiratori on Tokyo homicide investigations and treats him as a trusted fellow inspector.

Conan Edogawa repeatedly assists cases involving Shiratori. Shiratori recognizes his intelligence but is often less inclined than some colleagues to immediately follow the child's suggestions.
