Wataru Takagi

Takagi is kind, earnest, modest, and occasionally nervous. He lacks the arrogance associated with some detectives and readily acknowledges when another person has noticed something he missed. This makes him particularly receptive to Conan's suggestions.

His gentler personality does not prevent him from acting courageously. Takagi repeatedly enters dangerous situations to protect civilians and fellow officers, and his determination becomes especially pronounced when Satou is endangered.

He is also romantically awkward. His feelings for Satou are obvious to their colleagues, and attempts to advance their relationship are frequently disrupted by police work, misunderstandings, or interference from other officers.

Takagi is an experienced homicide detective trained in crime-scene investigation, interrogation, pursuit, firearms, and standard police procedure. His investigative ability improves considerably across the series as he gains experience.

He is particularly effective at following incomplete leads. Conan often gives Takagi a clue rather than a complete explanation, trusting him to obtain records, investigate suspects, or locate evidence that cannot be accessed by a child.

Takagi is physically courageous and capable in dangerous confrontations, although he is not portrayed as the exceptional hand-to-hand fighter that Satou is.

Takagi first appeared in the anime as an unnamed police detective before Gosho Aoyama incorporated him into the manga. He subsequently becomes one of the most frequently recurring Tokyo police officers.

His partnership with Satou develops into a long-running romantic storyline. Other male officers initially resent Takagi's growing closeness to her, with Ninzaburo Shiratori emerging as his most prominent rival.

Takagi's past is later connected to Wataru Date, the senior detective who mentored him. Date's death leaves Takagi with his mentor's notebook and a personal determination to become the kind of officer Date expected him to be.

Miwako Satou is Takagi's frequent partner and romantic interest. Their relationship grows gradually from professional trust into mutual love.

Juzo Megure is Takagi's superior and regularly assigns him to homicide investigations.

Conan Edogawa works unusually closely with Takagi. Takagi respects Conan Edogawa's intelligence and frequently acts on information the child provides.

Wataru Date was Takagi's senior partner and mentor. His death profoundly affects Takagi and leaves him determined to live up to Date's example.

Chiba is one of Takagi's closest fellow detectives within the First Division and regularly works cases alongside him.
