Rinichirou Hagire

Hagire is detached, obsessive and almost entirely unconstrained by conventional medical ethics. Other people interest him primarily as research subjects or potential tools, and extraordinary biological phenomena provoke fascination rather than fear or compassion.

His obsession with Shiro becomes the defining pursuit of his life. He regards the Wretched Egg as an unprecedented scientific achievement and is willing to manipulate generations of people to continue investigating its possibilities.

Hagire can behave casually even while discussing horrific experiments. This emotional distance makes his cruelty different from Tamaki's theatrical sadism: experimentation itself is enough to motivate him.

Hagire is an accomplished physician and researcher whose work encompasses human experimentation, the Nameless Worm and Branches of Sin.

To overcome the limits of his natural lifespan, Hagire develops a process that uses Chan and En's Hollow Swallow to overwrite another person's mind with his memories and personality. Each replacement body becomes another "generation" of Hagire, allowing his research to continue far beyond the life of his original body.

After taking control of Toto Sakigami's body, Hagire gains access to Love Labyrinth and the Branches of Sin Toto had copied. This gives him an enormous collection of blood-based abilities alongside Toto's exceptional physical capabilities.

Hagire works with Sorae before Deadman Wonderland exists, conducting experiments intended to increase human immunity. Shiro becomes their principal experimental subject, and the resulting research creates the biological phenomenon that later produces the Deadmen.

Although Deadman Wonderland publicly appears to operate under other administrators, Hagire's influence persists in its most secret levels. Chan and En answer directly to him rather than to the visible prison hierarchy.

Hagire eventually reveals that he has transferred himself into Toto Sakigami. He seeks to disable the Mother Goose System and fully awaken the Wretched Egg, later attempting to transfer himself into Ganta because Ganta's Branch of Sin can unlock the system.

Shiro is Hagire's adopted daughter and most important experimental subject. His fascination with the Wretched Egg drives much of his research.

Sorae Igarashi is Hagire's former research colleague and the scientist who worked with him on Shiro.

Chan and En are Hagire's adopted children and devoted attendants. Their Hollow Swallow enables his consciousness-transfer procedure.

Toto Sakigami becomes Hagire's later host, allowing Hagire to use Love Labyrinth and Toto's copied Branches of Sin.

Ganta Igarashi becomes central to Hagire's plans because of his unusual Branch of Sin. Hagire ultimately attempts to overwrite Ganta and take his body as another host.

Tsunenaga Tamaki believes himself to be the master of Deadman Wonderland, only to discover that his elaborate "game" has existed within Hagire's much older experiment.
