Personality
Personality
Riko is determined, curious and serious about becoming a reporter. She does not want to succeed simply because her father already works in football journalism, and she approaches interviews as opportunities to develop her own experience.
Her composed professional image has a comedic weakness: when she becomes extremely excited, her expressions begin resembling her father's exaggerated appearance. This undercuts her repeated insistence that the two are nothing alike.
Riko is also comfortable approaching intimidating athletes directly. Her interviews require her to speak with some of the strongest and most eccentric players in the Kanto tournament without allowing their reputations to overwhelm her.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Riko's abilities are journalistic rather than athletic. She researches prominent players, conducts interviews and learns to communicate football information to an audience.
Her major assignment involves interviewing the aces representing the eight teams in the Kanto Tournament. This gives her direct access to players with very different personalities and philosophies of football.
She later gains live-commentary experience, requiring her to follow games in real time and explain their developments alongside an experienced announcer.
Story Role
Story Role
Riko enters the football world through her father, a former player who works for American Football Monthly. She assists him and decides that she wants to pursue sports reporting herself.
Her Kanto Tournament interviews provide an outside perspective on the competition's major players. Rather than belonging to a particular school, Riko moves between teams and helps frame the tournament as a broader sporting event.
From the Kanto Tournament onward, Riko replaces her father as Machine Gun Sanada's commentary partner, taking a concrete step toward establishing her own career in football media.
Relationships
Relationships
"Bomberhead" Kumabukuro is Riko's father and professional inspiration. Riko repeatedly insists that she is unlike "Bomberhead" Kumabukuro, although her excited expressions reveal a strong family resemblance.
"Machine Gun" Sanada works in football broadcasting alongside the Kumabukuro family. [Riko eventually becomes Machine Gun Sanada's regular commentary partner in place of her father.](#spoiler)
Agon Kongo is one of the prominent Kanto Tournament players Riko approaches during her reporting work and attempts to flirt with her during their interaction.
