Personality
Personality
Monta is loud, excitable and intensely competitive. He attaches "MAX" to countless statements and celebrates impressive catches with exaggerated poses. His confidence can swing sharply, however, particularly when his identity as a receiver is challenged.
He is sensitive about comparisons to monkeys, despite his appearance and movements making those comparisons a recurring source of irritation. He also has an enthusiastic crush on Mamori and can become jealous when he misreads interactions involving her.
Under the comedy is a player with fierce pride in his hands. Monta cannot tolerate the idea that another receiver is simply beyond his reach, and strong opponents tend to make him work harder rather than accept inferiority.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Monta's hands are exceptional. He can secure difficult passes one-handed, leap for high balls and adjust his body in midair. His long arms and strong grip compensate for his short stature.
He initially lacks the speed of elite receivers, running the 40-yard dash in roughly five seconds. Deimon therefore uses route design, timing and his ability to win contested catches rather than expecting him simply to outrun defensive backs.
Monta develops techniques such as the Devil Backfire, catching passes behind his head without visually tracking the ball at the final instant. His rivalry with elite receivers continually improves his timing, hand positioning and ability to fight for possession.
Story Role
Story Role
Monta begins with dreams of becoming a baseball star like Masaru Honjo, whose spectacular catches he idolizes. His throwing and batting are poor, however, preventing his catching talent from earning him the baseball role he wants.
Sena sees him catch and persuades him to try American football, explaining that a receiver can specialize in the one skill at which he excels. Monta joins the Devil Bats and quickly becomes indispensable to Hiruma's passing game.
His encounters with increasingly accomplished receivers, particularly Sakuraba and Tetsuma, turn his raw catching ability into a genuine competitive craft. He ultimately becomes one of Deimon's central offensive players during its run to the Christmas Bowl.
Relationships
Relationships
Sena Kobayakawa recruits Monta and becomes one of his closest friends. Both enter football without conventional experience and grow alongside one another.
Youichi Hiruma is Monta's quarterback and frequently demands catches that appear impossible. Tarou Raimon's trust in Youichi Hiruma's passes becomes central to Deimon's aerial offense.
Mamori Anezaki is the object of Monta's enthusiastic crush, although his romantic hopes are largely one-sided.
Masaru Honjo is Monta's childhood baseball idol and the inspiration behind his obsession with catching.
Tetsuma Jo becomes one of Monta's principal receiver rivals, challenging him with precise route-running and extraordinary reliability.
Haruto Sakuraba also pushes Monta to reconsider what a receiver can accomplish through height, reach and persistent training.
