Daisuke Atsumi

Atsumi is earnest, realistic and persistent. He understands that neither he nor his teammates possess the extraordinary natural ability seen on Japan's strongest teams, but he does not use that as an excuse to stop working.

He also has enough composure to recognize Hiruma's intimidation as psychological warfare. Rather than allowing threats and theatrics to determine his behavior, Atsumi concentrates on the game and his teammates.

His leadership is rooted in shared effort. The Yuuhi Guts have trained together for years, and Atsumi takes their desire to compete seriously even when outsiders consider them hopeless underdogs.

Atsumi plays quarterback and linebacker, contributing on both sides of the ball. His 85 kg bench press and 5.5-second 40-yard dash are respectable but do not place him among the series' physical standouts.

His primary strength is experience earned through sustained practice. As quarterback, he directs the Yuuhi offense; as captain, he helps maintain the team's cohesion despite its limited roster of elite athletes.

Hiruma characterizes Atsumi as the best player on an otherwise weak team, an assessment that captures his relative position more than any particular signature technique.

Atsumi leads the Yuuhi Guts into the autumn tournament expecting the team to represent its school after years of training. School officials instead bring in star athletes from other clubs to replace the regular football players against Deimon.

The decision leaves Atsumi and his actual teammates on the sideline. Deimon's dominance and refusal to take the substitutes seriously expose the difference between borrowed athletic ability and players genuinely committed to football.

The replacement athletes eventually withdraw, allowing Atsumi and the real Yuuhi Guts to take the field. Although Deimon wins 56–7, the Guts finally receive the opportunity to play the game for which they had trained and afterward support Deimon in its next match.

Youichi Hiruma evaluates Atsumi as Yuuhi's strongest player and gives the team only a tiny chance of defeating Deimon. Atsumi is nevertheless unusually resistant to Youichi Hiruma's intimidation.

Sena Kobayakawa and the rest of Deimon provide the opposition through which Atsumi and his teammates finally demonstrate how seriously they take football.
