Maruko Himuro

Himuro is mature, cool-headed and strongly guided by her sense of morality. She can appreciate ambition and determination without accepting every method used to achieve victory.

That distinction puts her increasingly at odds with Hakushu's strategy. Watching opponents suffer serious injuries leaves her unable to share Reiji's willingness to treat physical destruction as a legitimate path toward the Christmas Bowl.

Despite her disapproval, she does not simply stop caring about him. Her feelings remain complicated by the contrast between the optimistic boy whose ambition she once admired and the increasingly ruthless captain pursuing that promise.

Himuro serves as Hakushu's manager rather than an active player. Her responsibilities center on supporting and observing the team.

She also possesses enough understanding of the danger created by Hakushu's style to recognize when opposing players face serious physical risk. Her response is unusual for a manager: she is willing to approach opponents directly if she believes continuing a game could lead to unnecessary injuries.

Himuro's history with Reiji predates their high-school football careers. When he becomes infatuated with her in middle school, he promises that he will win the Christmas Bowl and show her the morning sunshine after victory.

His later obsession with defeating Teikoku changes the meaning of that promise. The recruitment of Rikiya Gaou gives Hakushu overwhelming physical power, but the injuries left behind by that strategy horrify Himuro.

Before Hakushu faces Seibu, Himuro approaches Sena and Riku and urges them to consider surrendering rather than risk being badly injured. She is not attempting to secure an easy victory; she genuinely wants to prevent further harm.

Reiji Maruko is the person most closely connected to Himuro. His original Christmas Bowl ambition begins partly as an attempt to impress her, and the two develop a close romantic relationship. His increasingly ruthless methods drive them apart, although Himuro continues to care about him.

Rikiya Gaou's extraordinary strength is central to Himuro's moral conflict with Hakushu's strategy. She is disturbed by the injuries that result from allowing Rikiya Gaou to overwhelm opponents.

Sena Kobayakawa is one of the players Himuro approaches because she fears what could happen if he faces Hakushu without regard for his own safety.

Riku Kaitani receives the same warning before Seibu's confrontation with Hakushu.
