Rickert

Rickert is kind, earnest and deeply loyal to the people he considers family. As the youngest Hawk, he admires the older mercenaries and shares their pride in the company even though he is not among its strongest fighters.

He is also remarkably resilient. Rickert experiences losses that would leave many characters consumed by revenge, but he instead develops into a craftsman and protector. His grief remains real without completely determining the person he becomes.

As he matures, Rickert develops considerable moral independence. He can admire what Griffith once meant to the Hawks while judging the person before him according to his own understanding of what happened.

Rickert is an ordinary human without supernatural powers, but he develops exceptional mechanical and smithing ability under Godo. He assists in maintaining weapons and becomes an inventive engineer capable of constructing devices well beyond ordinary medieval technology.

His creations include compact explosives, firearms and mechanical weapons. Rickert's ingenuity makes him dangerous even against supernatural opponents because he prepares equipment specifically around practical weaknesses rather than trying to match them physically.

He also possesses the survival skills expected of a former mercenary. Although not comparable to Guts or Casca as a warrior, Rickert can use weapons and remain composed during combat.

Rickert participates in the Golden Age as the youngest Hawk. Shortly before the Eclipse, he is separated from the main group when monsters attack the wounded members left behind.

Because he is absent from the Eclipse, Rickert escapes the sacrifice that destroys most of the Band of the Hawk. He later learns of his comrades' deaths and helps construct memorial swords for them near Godo's home.

Rickert remains with Godo and Erica while Guts pursues his war against Apostles. Over time he becomes a skilled blacksmith and inventor in his own right.

Rickert later travels to Falconia and meets the reincarnated Griffith. After learning enough about Griffith's actions to make his own judgment, Rickert rejects his invitation to join the reborn Band of the Hawk and slaps him across the face.

Rakshas subsequently attacks Rickert, but Rickert's inventions, together with assistance from Silat and the Tapasa, allow the group to escape Falconia.

Guts is one of Rickert's former comrades and later a close friend. Rickert helps maintain equipment for him and shares the grief surrounding the original Hawks.

Griffith was Rickert's commander and once an object of admiration. Rickert later rejects the reincarnated Griffith after understanding the price paid for his return.

Casca is another senior member of the original Band of the Hawk whom Rickert knew and respected.

Godo becomes Rickert's mentor in smithing and provides him with a home after the destruction of the Hawks.

Erica becomes Rickert's closest companion and effectively his family while they live with Godo.

Silat and the Tapasa help Rickert escape Falconia after Rakshas attacks him.

Rakshas attempts to assassinate Rickert following his rejection of Griffith.
