Morgan

Morgan is vain, brutal and consumed by rank. He forces townspeople to fear him, orders subordinates executed for questioning him and commissions an enormous statue of himself atop the Marine base.

He equates authority with personal greatness rather than public duty. Even his son receives affection only as an extension of Morgan’s status, and failure quickly turns that relationship into contempt.

Before his promotion, Morgan displays greater courage and professional commitment during the confrontation with Kuro’s crew. The combination of hypnotic manipulation and later power contributes to his transformation, though it does not excuse his deliberate abuses in Shells Town.

Morgan’s right arm ends in a large axe capable of cutting through fences, masonry and other heavy materials. His upper-body strength allows him to wield it as part of his arm rather than as a separate weapon.

He is resilient enough to survive the wounds inflicted during Kuro’s staged capture and later escapes custody after attacking Garp. His strength remains limited compared with the major fighters who appear later in the series.

Morgan holds command experience as a Marine officer, but his administration relies on intimidation. Fear keeps his branch obedient until Luffy and Zoro defeat him and his own subordinates finally reject his rule.

As a lower-ranking Marine, Morgan’s ship encounters the Black Cat Pirates. Jango hypnotizes Morgan into believing that he captured Kuro, while a substitute is presented for execution. The false achievement earns Morgan promotion and eventually command at Shells Town.

Morgan imprisons Zoro after Helmeppo reneges on a promise to release him. When Luffy and Koby enter the base, Morgan orders his Marines to kill them and threatens anyone who hesitates.

Luffy and Zoro defeat Morgan, after which the Marines salute the pirates for ending his tyranny. Headquarters strips Morgan of his rank and sends Garp to escort him for trial.

Morgan escapes by slashing Garp and taking Helmeppo hostage. Helmeppo refuses to help him flee, and Morgan abandons his son before disappearing. His subsequent whereabouts remain unknown.

Helmeppo is Morgan’s son. Morgan enables his privileged behavior while in power but treats him as expendable during the escape, prompting Helmeppo to reject him.

Roronoa Zoro is imprisoned under Morgan’s authority after protecting a child from Helmeppo’s wolf. Zoro later helps Monkey D. Luffy defeat Morgan.

Kuro is the pirate whose false capture creates Morgan’s career. Jango hypnotizes Morgan and supplies the condemned double used in Kuro’s disappearance.

Monkey D. Garp is assigned to transport Morgan. Morgan wounds him while he sleeps, although the attack causes no lasting harm and succeeds chiefly because Garp is inattentive.

Koby exposes Morgan’s tyranny alongside Luffy and later joins the Marines that Morgan had corrupted. His career develops into a direct contrast with Morgan’s use of rank.
