Miwako Satou

Satou is courageous, direct, compassionate, and intensely committed to justice. She has little tolerance for murderers who take lives over trivial grievances and can react sharply when a culprit attempts to excuse unnecessary violence.

Her kindness is particularly visible around children. She treats the Detective Boys warmly and gives Conan's observations far more credibility than most adults initially do.

Satou can also become reckless when people close to her are threatened. Personal losses have left deep emotional marks, and cases that echo those experiences can push her toward decisions she would normally avoid.

Satou is an accomplished close-quarters fighter with strong jujutsu and wrestling skills. She can subdue larger criminals quickly and is considered one of the more physically dangerous members of the Tokyo police force.

She is proficient with firearms and capable of accurate shooting under pressure. Her driving is equally notable: Satou's aggressive technique became legendary among racers on Mount Fuyuna, where her car was associated with the mysterious "Silver Witch."

As a detective, Satou is observant and experienced in interrogation, evidence collection, and reconstruction of crimes. She is willing to incorporate Conan's insights rather than dismiss them because of his apparent age.

Satou becomes a recurring member of the Tokyo police cast after appearing during the stadium blackmail case. Her partnership with Takagi soon develops into one of the series' longest-running police storylines.

Her personal history also drives several major police cases. Her father, Masayoshi Satou, died eighteen years earlier after being struck by a vehicle while pursuing a bank robber. Solving the case surrounding his final words allows Satou to confront a mystery that had followed her since childhood.

Later stories explore her relationship with bomb-squad officer Jinpei Matsuda. Matsuda dies while obtaining information needed to stop a second bomb, leaving Satou traumatized by the loss. Her growing relationship with Takagi forces her to decide whether she can move forward without erasing Matsuda's importance to her.

Wataru Takagi is Satou's frequent investigative partner and eventual romantic interest. Their relationship develops gradually despite interference from other officers and the dangers of police work.

Juzo Megure is Satou's commanding officer and a figure she regards with considerable trust and respect.

Jinpei Matsuda becomes Satou's partner for a brief but important period. His death during a bombing case leaves Satou with lasting grief and an association between Ferris wheels and the final moments of the case.

Masayoshi Satou is Satou's father, a police officer whose death while pursuing a criminal strongly influences her decision to work in law enforcement.

Ninzaburo Shiratori initially pursues Satou romantically and competes with Wataru Takagi for her attention.

Yumi Miyamoto is one of Satou's closest friends and frequently involves herself in Satou's romantic life.

Conan Edogawa earns Satou's trust through his repeated contributions to investigations, and she takes his observations seriously even when they seem unusually sophisticated for a child.
