Yumi Miyamoto

Yumi is outgoing, mischievous, sociable, and unusually interested in other people's romantic relationships. She delights in teasing Satou and Takagi and repeatedly devises situations intended to bring the two closer together.

Her teasing personality extends to her own relationships. Yumi can appear dismissive of romance while simultaneously expecting considerable attention from the people interested in her.

She is nevertheless a responsible police officer when circumstances become serious. Traffic enforcement gives her extensive experience with road incidents, hit-and-runs, and suspicious vehicle behavior.

Yumi is a trained police officer experienced in traffic enforcement, accident response, pursuit, and standard investigative procedure.

Her position places her particularly close to incidents involving vehicles and road safety. She is comfortable operating patrol cars and coordinating with other police divisions when an apparent traffic incident develops into a criminal case.

Yumi is also socially perceptive. Although she uses that ability most visibly when interfering in Satou's romantic life, she can read people's relationships and motivations effectively.

Yumi first appears as one of Satou's closest friends within the Metropolitan Police Department. She quickly becomes a recurring participant in the romantic storyline surrounding Satou and Takagi, frequently creating opportunities for them to spend time together.

Her own romantic life later becomes important through professional shogi player Shukichi Haneda. Yumi initially regards him as an eccentric former boyfriend and has little understanding of how famous he actually is.

Shukichi's pursuit of all seven major shogi titles is closely connected to his desire to fulfill a promise involving Yumi. She gradually learns the scale of his career and the seriousness with which he has treated their relationship.

Miwako Satou is Yumi's closest friend. Yumi relentlessly teases Miwako Satou about Takagi while also trying to help their relationship progress.

Wataru Takagi is Satou's partner and romantic interest, making him a frequent target of Yumi's matchmaking.

Shukichi Haneda is Yumi's romantic partner. She calls Shukichi Haneda "Chukichi" and initially fails to appreciate just how accomplished he is within professional shogi.

Naeko Miike works with Yumi in the Traffic Division and becomes another recurring member of the department's traffic-police cast.

Conan Edogawa encounters Yumi during numerous cases and occasionally relies on her access to police information and transportation.
