Dragon Ball

Kuririn

クリリン

Story Role

Kuririn enters as Goku’s Turtle School rival and participates in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. His training and tournament performance establish him as more than a comic foil. He returns for the 22nd tournament, where he defeats Chiaotzu by exploiting his difficulty with arithmetic before losing to Goku.

Tambourine murders Kuririn after the tournament, prompting Goku’s pursuit of King Piccolo. Kuririn is restored with the Dragon Balls and enters the 23rd tournament, where he performs well enough against Piccolo to earn the future Demon King’s respect.

During the Saiyan invasion, Kuririn kills several Saibamen with the Scattering Bullet and survives Nappa’s assault. After Goku defeats Nappa, Kuririn helps battle Vegeta and is given the opportunity to kill the defeated prince. Goku persuades him to let Vegeta escape.

Kuririn travels to Namek to revive Piccolo and the others. He protects Dende, receives a potential unlock from Grand Elder Guru and participates in the shifting alliance against Frieza. Frieza’s murder of Kuririn causes Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan. Kuririn is later revived through the Namekian Dragon Balls.

During the android conflict, Kuririn’s compassion toward Android 18 affects the entire battle. He refuses to use the shutdown remote, allowing Cell another opportunity to pursue her. Although the choice contributes to Cell reaching perfection, it also leads to Kuririn’s future family.

Kuririn participates less actively during the Majin Buu conflict. Super Buu turns him and the other people at the Lookout into food, killing him until the victims are restored after Kid Buu’s defeat. He later settles into family life and police work.

In Dragon Ball Super, Kuririn returns to training and joins Universe 7 in the Tournament of Power. He defeats opponents through teamwork and ring strategy before being eliminated by Frost. His role emphasizes specialized technique rather than matching divine transformations.
