Dragon Ball

Piccolo

ピッコロ

Story Role

Piccolo first serves as the final antagonist of the original tournament era. Entering as Ma Junior, he defeats Krillin and Kami before battling Goku. His defeat leaves him alive, hostile and determined to return, while Goku recognizes him as a future rival.

Raditz’s arrival forces Piccolo to cooperate with Goku. His Special Beam Cannon is the only available technique capable of penetrating Raditz’s armor, but its long charge time requires Goku to restrain their enemy. Piccolo fires through both men, killing Raditz and Goku together.

Piccolo trains Gohan during the year before Vegeta and Nappa arrive. His sacrifice against Nappa demonstrates that his inherited evil has changed, and his death also kills Kami and removes Earth’s Dragon Balls. He is revived through the Namekian Dragon Balls and transported to Namek, where assimilating Nail lets him battle Frieza.

During the android conflict, Piccolo reunites with Kami after learning that Cell is absorbing human populations. He interrogates Cell, fights Android 17 and helps defend the surviving androids from absorption. Once Cell becomes perfect, Piccolo shifts toward observation and support.

In the Majin Buu conflict, Piccolo helps teach fusion to Goten and Trunks. He attempts to delay Super Buu inside the Room of Spirit and Time and directs Gotenks’s battle. Super Buu later absorbs Piccolo, gaining his intelligence and clothing.

In Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo competes against Universe 6, participates in the Tournament of Power and continues training Gohan. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero places him at the center of the conflict with the revived Red Ribbon Army.

Piccolo infiltrates the enemy base, uncovers the Cell Max project and arranges a false kidnapping to force Gohan back into serious training. After Shenron unlocks his potential, Piccolo attains Orange Piccolo, battles Cell Max in giant form and holds the creature in place long enough for Gohan Beast to destroy it.
