Dende

Dende is gentle, compassionate, and initially frightened by the violence consuming his homeworld. The massacre of Namekian villages gives him understandable hostility toward Vegeta, whose actions against his people make cooperation with the Saiyan difficult for him to accept.

He nevertheless shows considerable courage. Despite lacking the strength to fight Frieza directly, Dende repeatedly enters dangerous battlefields to heal injured allies and assists the Earthlings with the Namekian Dragon Balls.

Dende belongs to the Dragon Clan rather than Namek's warrior type. His most important ability is healing: after Grand Elder Guru awakens his potential, Dende can restore severe injuries and replenish a person's physical condition through touch.

He can fly, sense ki, communicate telepathically in certain circumstances, and possesses the Dragon Clan's mystical affinity with Dragon Balls. After becoming Earth's God, he restores Earth's Dragon Balls and modifies their rules, including increasing the number of wishes Shenron can grant under appropriate conditions.

Dende meets Gohan and Krillin after they intervene during Dodoria's attack on Namekians. He leads them to Grand Elder Guru, whose ability to unlock dormant potential greatly strengthens both Earthlings.

Dende later assists in using Porunga because the Namekian dragon requires wishes spoken in the Namekian language. He repeatedly heals the warriors fighting Frieza, making him a strategically important target.

Frieza kills Dende after realizing he is responsible for healing the others, but Dende is subsequently restored through the Dragon Balls. Years later, Goku brings him from New Namek to Earth, where he succeeds Kami as Earth's God and restores the planet's Dragon Balls.

Gohan and Krillin rescue Dende from Dodoria and become his closest Earthling allies on Namek. Dende forms a particularly warm friendship with Gohan.

Grand Elder Guru is the elder who awakens Dende's healing ability. Nail is another important member of Dende's Namekian community.

Vegeta initially inspires Dende's hatred because of his violence against Namekians, and Dende resists healing him until circumstances force cooperation. Goku later asks Dende to relocate to Earth. Piccolo recommends a Namekian capable of replacing Kami, ultimately leading to Dende's new role.
