Kouichi Zenigata

Zenigata is stubborn, passionate, emotional, and almost impossibly persistent. Arresting Lupin has become the defining professional goal of his life, and setbacks usually motivate another chase rather than discouraging him.

His loud and sometimes impulsive behavior can obscure considerable intelligence. Zenigata understands Lupin's habits better than most investigators and is frequently capable of predicting where the thief will appear or what sort of objective he is pursuing.

Their rivalry also contains genuine mutual respect. Zenigata refuses to excuse Lupin's crimes, but years of pursuit have produced an unusual bond that neither fits comfortably into a simple criminal-versus-police relationship.

Zenigata is a highly capable detective with extensive experience tracking international criminals. He is skilled at identifying Lupin's likely objectives, organizing police operations, and pursuing suspects across difficult terrain.

He is proficient in judo and karate and possesses extraordinary physical resilience. His signature equipment includes handcuffs attached to a long rope, allowing him to capture suspects from a distance, and he can also use firearms when necessary.

During the Vespania incident, Conan's tranquilizer dart incapacitates Zenigata only briefly despite normally being powerful enough to keep an adult unconscious for much longer.

Zenigata arrives in Vespania while pursuing Lupin, who has targeted the kingdom's crown jewels. The royal investigation brings him into the same case as Conan and the Mouri group.

His connection to the Detective Conan police extends beyond the immediate case. He and Juzo Megure are old acquaintances from the police academy, giving the two franchises a direct law-enforcement connection.

Zenigata returns in Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie, participating in efforts to prevent Lupin's theft of the Cherry Sapphire before the apparent jewel robbery develops into a larger international criminal operation.

Arsène Lupin III is Zenigata's lifelong quarry and greatest rival. Zenigata is determined to arrest Arsène Lupin III, yet understands and respects the thief more than he generally admits.

Juzo Megure is an old police-academy acquaintance of Zenigata.

Conan Edogawa encounters Zenigata during the Vespania case and quickly witnesses both his eccentricity and remarkable physical endurance.

Miwako Satou and Wataru Takagi work alongside Zenigata during the Cherry Sapphire operation.

Daisuke Jigen, Fujiko Mine, and Goemon Ishikawa XIII are Lupin's recurring associates and therefore frequent targets of Zenigata's investigations as well.
