Personality
Personality
Uozumi is proud, emotional and intensely competitive. His imposing appearance hides the insecurity produced by his difficult beginnings in basketball, when teammates mocked him for having height without the skill or stamina to make effective use of it.
Taoka's faith becomes crucial to his perseverance. Uozumi responds to that encouragement by working until he becomes one of Kanagawa's best centers, and his loyalty to Ryonan reflects the importance of the team in his development.
His greatest weakness is his temper. Uozumi reacts strongly to provocation and officiating, sometimes allowing frustration to override tactical judgment. Opponents learn that provoking him can be nearly as effective as challenging him physically.
At the same time, his rivalry with Akagi matures into deep mutual respect. Uozumi understands the burden carried by another physically imposing captain whose ambitions depend on leading an entire team.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Uozumi's enormous frame is his defining advantage. At 202 cm and 90 kg, he is one of Kanagawa's tallest and strongest players, capable of controlling space around the basket through sheer physical presence.
He is an excellent rebounder and shot-blocker. His strength makes him difficult to dislodge from the paint, while his reach allows him to challenge shots that smaller defenders cannot contest.
Offensively, Uozumi relies heavily on interior scoring and powerful dunks rather than finesse. He is less technically polished than Akagi and lacks the scoring versatility of Toru Hanagata, but his physical force remains formidable.
His principal competitive weakness is foul management. Emotional reactions and overly aggressive defense repeatedly place him in foul trouble, creating serious problems because Ryonan has no replacement who can reproduce his interior presence.
Story Role
Story Role
Uozumi first becomes a major obstacle during Shohoku's practice game against Ryonan, establishing the level Akagi must overcome among Kanagawa's elite centers. Their rivalry continues into the prefectural tournament.
Against Kainan, Uozumi's interior strength is essential to Ryonan's attempt to defeat the defending champions. His inability to control his frustration contributes to severe foul trouble, and his absence during critical stretches damages Ryonan's chances.
The decisive Shohoku-Ryonan rematch forces him to confront the same weakness. Sakuragi deliberately provokes him, while Akagi battles him directly for control of the paint. Ryonan's defeat eliminates the team from the Inter-High, after which Uozumi steps away from the basketball club to pursue cooking in his family's restaurant.
Uozumi later travels to the national tournament as a spectator. When Akagi becomes overwhelmed against Sannoh's Masashi Kawata, Uozumi dramatically appears near the court dressed as a cook and cuts a daikon radish, using the demonstration to remind Akagi that his role does not require defeating Kawata individually. The intervention restores Akagi's perspective.
Relationships
Relationships
Takenori Akagi is Uozumi's principal rival and eventual friend. Their battles as Kanagawa centers are fiercely competitive, but Uozumi develops profound respect for Akagi and later supports him when he struggles at nationals.
Moichi Taoka is the coach who refuses to give up on Uozumi during his difficult first year. Taoka's belief that his enormous height could become an irreplaceable advantage is fundamental to Uozumi's development.
Akira Sendoh is Ryonan's ace and the player Uozumi relies upon when the team needs exceptional scoring or playmaking.
Ryoji Ikegami is Uozumi's fellow third-year veteran and vice-captain. Both carry responsibility for Ryonan's younger players.
Kicchou Fukuda, Hiroaki Koshino and Tomoyuki Uekusa are important teammates in Ryonan's pursuit of the national tournament.
Hanamichi Sakuragi calls Uozumi "Boss Monkey" and repeatedly clashes with him under the basket. Their rebounding battles become important tests of Sakuragi's development.
