Hiroaki Koshino

Koshino is competitive, outspoken and quick-tempered. He takes Ryonan's basketball seriously and reacts badly when opponents behave disrespectfully toward his team.

Sakuragi is especially effective at irritating him. Sakuragi's boasting and habit of inventing insulting nicknames clash directly with Koshino's pride, creating repeated verbal confrontations.

Despite his temper, Koshino is a dependable team player. He accepts a supporting role around Ryonan's stars and contributes through movement, passing and defense rather than demanding constant possession.

Koshino plays on the perimeter and contributes as a shooter, passer and defender. At 174 cm, he does not possess the overwhelming size of Ryonan's frontcourt and instead relies on mobility and basketball fundamentals.

He can hit outside shots when given room, although Ryonan's offense is not structured around him as an elite long-range specialist. Sendou and Kicchou Fukuda carry much more of the scoring burden.

Koshino's willingness to defend and move without the ball is important to Ryonan's balance. He helps maintain pressure while the team's more dangerous offensive players search for scoring opportunities.

Koshino first appears as part of Ryonan's lineup during the practice game against Shohoku. He becomes one of the recurring faces of the rival team as Shohoku's inexperienced roster begins discovering the level of competition in Kanagawa.

He returns throughout the prefectural tournament, including Ryonan's games against Kainan and Shohoku. His presence provides continuity around Sendou and Uozumi while Taoka changes assignments according to the opposition.

Ryonan's 70–66 defeat to Shohoku ends its chance to qualify for the national tournament. Unlike graduating third-years Uozumi and Ryoji Ikegami, Koshino remains part of the younger group expected to carry Ryonan forward.

Akira Sendou is Koshino's teammate and Ryonan's offensive ace. Koshino helps provide the supporting perimeter play that allows Sendou to operate in multiple roles.

Jun Uozumi is Koshino's captain and the team's dominant interior presence.

Moichi Taoka coaches Koshino and relies on him as one of Ryonan's regular perimeter players.

Tomoyuki Uekusa is a fellow second-year guard and regular member of Ryonan's backcourt.

Kicchou Fukuda is another second-year teammate whose scoring ability gives Ryonan an additional offensive weapon.

Hanamichi Sakuragi repeatedly irritates Koshino with his arrogance and provocations during meetings between Shohoku and Ryonan.
