Hidemi Hondou

Hidemi is composed and capable of maintaining a convincing professional persona under extreme pressure. As Rena Mizunashi, she comes across as a personable television announcer and initially approaches Kogoro Mouri over what seems to be an ordinary problem at her home.

Her behavior within the Black Organization is colder and more disciplined. She follows orders and understands that hesitation can make Gin suspicious, yet she does not share his casual willingness to kill anyone who becomes inconvenient.

Her compassion reflects the fact that her loyalty to the organization is an elaborate cover. Hidemi is actually a CIA operative who has infiltrated the syndicate, forcing her to balance her intelligence mission against the danger of exposing herself whenever she tries to protect someone.

Hidemi is highly trained in covert intelligence work. She can maintain false identities, operate under surveillance and continue functioning convincingly among members of the Black Organization despite the constant danger of discovery.

She is also physically capable and accustomed to firearms and dangerous field operations. Her greatest strength, however, is her ability to control the information available to people around her and convincingly inhabit the identity expected of her.

After returning to the Black Organization, she continues transmitting information to the CIA and later covertly warns the FBI about the organization's interest in the codename Bourbon. Maintaining this position requires her to satisfy Gin that she remains loyal.

Hidemi first enters the story as Rena Mizunashi, a Nichiuri TV announcer who asks Kogoro Mouri to investigate repeated ringing of her doorbell. Conan discovers that the harmless-looking case has accidentally placed a listening device on Rena, allowing him to overhear communications connected to the Black Organization.

She becomes central to the conflict between the organization and the FBI. After an operation involving Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti and Korn, Hidemi is seriously injured and falls into FBI custody.

Conan and Shuichi Akai eventually determine that Rena Mizunashi is really Hidemi Hondou, a CIA operative and the daughter of CIA agent Ethan Hondou. Her Black Organization membership is an undercover assignment rather than genuine allegiance.

The FBI arranges for Hidemi to return to the organization so that she can continue operating as an intelligence source. To convince Gin of her loyalty, she is ordered to kill Shuichi Akai, leading to a staged confrontation devised by Conan, Akai and Hidemi that allows her cover to survive.

Eisuke Hondou is Hidemi's younger brother. Her covert life separates her from Eisuke Hondou, who spends much of his introduction searching for the sister he knows as Hidemi while noticing Rena Mizunashi's resemblance to her.

Conan Edogawa initially investigates Hidemi as Rena Mizunashi and gradually uncovers the truth surrounding her family and loyalties. [Conan Edogawa later helps devise the plan that returns Hidemi safely to the Black Organization as an intelligence source.](#spoiler)

Shuichi Akai works with Hidemi during the FBI's operation against the Black Organization. Their apparent deadly confrontation is part of the elaborate plan designed to preserve both Hidemi's cover and Akai's life.

Gin distrusts Hidemi and repeatedly tests her loyalty, making him one of the greatest threats to her undercover position.
