Eisuke Hondou

Eisuke is cheerful, polite and unusually prone to accidents. He trips, falls, walks into objects and repeatedly creates awkward situations around himself, often making him seem far less capable than he really is.

He is also emotionally expressive. Eisuke can become discouraged when he fails to understand a case, and his concern for his missing older sister drives much of his behavior after arriving at Teitan High School.

His apparent foolishness should not be confused with poor intelligence. Eisuke pays close attention to inconsistencies, asks pointed questions and can pursue a line of investigation with remarkable persistence once he has a goal.

Eisuke has strong observational skills despite his physical clumsiness. He notices details surrounding Kogoro Mouri's deductions and becomes suspicious of the unusual role Conan Edogawa plays during cases.

His greatest strength is persistence. Working with limited information, he investigates the disappearance of his sister and independently traces important clues concerning Rena Mizunashi.

Eisuke eventually deduces that Conan and Shinichi Kudo are the same person. Rather than confronting him directly at first, he deliberately tells Conan that he intends to confess his feelings to Ran, provoking Conan into revealing the truth.

Eisuke transfers into Teitan High School after the Black Organization's attempted assassination of a politician and Rena Mizunashi's disappearance. He quickly becomes friendly with Ran Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki, while frequently accompanying Kogoro and Conan on cases.

Conan initially suspects that Eisuke may have some connection to the Black Organization. His family name, resemblance to Rena and persistent questions about her make his motives difficult to read.

Eisuke is actually searching for his older sister Hidemi Hondou, who has been operating publicly as Rena Mizunashi. His investigation eventually leads him to the hospital where the FBI is guarding her.

He later learns that his father Ethan and sister Hidemi are CIA agents and that Hidemi infiltrated the Black Organization under the codename Kir. After resolving his family's mystery, Eisuke decides to leave Japan and pursue a path toward joining the CIA himself.

Hidemi Hondou is Eisuke's older sister. He remembers Hidemi Hondou caring for him during his sickly childhood and spends much of his story searching for her after losing contact.

Ethan Hondou is Eisuke's father. [Eisuke Hondou eventually learns that Ethan Hondou was a CIA operative who infiltrated the Black Organization.](#spoiler)

Ran Mouri becomes Eisuke's classmate and friend at Teitan High School. [Eisuke develops romantic feelings for Ran Mouri and eventually says that he wants to confess to her before leaving Japan.](#spoiler)

Conan Edogawa initially distrusts Eisuke because of his connection to the mystery surrounding Rena Mizunashi. [Eisuke Hondou eventually deduces that Conan Edogawa is Shinichi Kudo and manipulates him into confirming it.](#spoiler)

Kogoro Mouri is the detective Eisuke initially claims to admire, giving him a reason to visit the Mouri Detective Agency while pursuing his own investigation.

Sonoko Suzuki is one of Eisuke's classmates and regularly spends time with him and Ran Mouri.
