Gokuraku Kagami

Gokuraku is aggressive, irreverent and enthusiastic about fighting Majiks. He is willing to beat a Majik repeatedly if he believes violence can force it through its trial, creating the brutal reputation reflected in his nickname. Threats and official condemnation do little to discourage him.

His violence is more purposeful than his reputation initially suggests. Gokuraku does not simply attack anything around him; he is obsessed with overcoming Majiks and has spent considerable effort modifying his body specifically to fight them. His hatred of Bakugami is especially intense and clearly personal even before the reasons behind it are fully explained.

Gokuraku gets along unusually well with Ichi. Both understand dangerous encounters through physical action rather than conventional magical theory, and their shared enthusiasm produces an immediate rapport. Gokuraku also demonstrates loyalty when Uroro attempts to exploit him, refusing an opportunity that would require betraying Ichi.

Gokuraku has no innate magical power and therefore cannot become a witch through ordinary Majik acquisition. He compensates by transforming himself into what he describes as an anti-Majik augmented human, incorporating Magic Items into his body and equipment.

His modifications grant him tremendous close-range combat capability. Armored gauntlets and greaves allow him to strike Majiks directly, while other Magic Items support his attempts to overcome supernatural opponents that ordinary humans would struggle even to touch.

Gokuraku's Synchro Rate pushes his augmented capabilities further by increasing his synchronization with Magic Items. Later upgrades provided through the Mantinel Witches Association's Wand and Tools Department expand his equipment with additional combat functions referred to as Hidden Tech.

Gokuraku enters the story while violently attempting to acquire Ariadne, the Origumo Majik. He has already satisfied Majik trials before, only to discover that completing a trial does not allow a person without magical power to actually acquire the resulting magic. His repeated attempts have consequently made him notorious among witches and Majiks alike.

After learning that Ichi can acquire magic despite being male, Gokuraku sees a possible solution to the problem that has defined his hunts. He asks Ichi to cooperate with him against Bakugami, even though attacking the Majik means opposing the country that worships it.

Gokuraku's true connection to Kagami is eventually revealed: he is its first prince and the younger brother of Princess Richia. His determination to defeat Bakugami comes from understanding the destructive consequences hidden beneath the Majik's promise to remove sorrow. During Bakugami's trial, Gokuraku endures ten years of accumulated grief while Ichi protects his physical body, allowing Ichi to acquire the Majik after their joint victory.

Following the Kagami mission, Gokuraku formally joins Team Desscaras as its Special Adjunct, turning the Association's former dangerous individual into one of the central members of Ichi's hunting party.

Ichi becomes Gokuraku's partner after the two discover that their abilities solve one another's central problem: Gokuraku can physically overcome Majiks, while Ichi can actually acquire them. Their friendship develops rapidly through their shared appetite for dangerous hunts.

Desscaras initially treats Gokuraku as the dangerous criminal described in Association records. She later accepts him into Team Desscaras as its Special Adjunct.

Kumugi Harvest is Gokuraku's teammate after his involvement with Team Desscaras becomes formalized.

Uroro attempts to manipulate Gokuraku by offering him what he wants in exchange for killing Ichi. Gokuraku rejects the proposal rather than betray his new companion.

Bakugami is the Majik Gokuraku is determined to defeat. His hatred comes from the effect Bakugami's magic has had on Kagami and the people closest to him.
