Ran Mouri

Ran is compassionate, patient, responsible, and strongly protective of the people around her. With her parents separated and her father frequently unreliable in domestic matters, she handles much of the cooking and household work at the Mouri residence while balancing school and karate.

Her kindness does not make her passive. Ran has a pronounced sense of justice and will physically confront dangerous people when necessary. She can also become frighteningly forceful when angry, particularly when someone threatens her friends or behaves dishonestly.

Ran is emotionally perceptive enough to repeatedly notice similarities between Conan and Shinichi. Her trust in Shinichi coexists with frustration over his prolonged absences and evasive explanations, making waiting for him one of the recurring pressures in her personal life.

Ran is an accomplished karate practitioner and captain of Teitan High School's karate club. She has won major competitions and can defeat physically larger attackers with kicks, punches, throws, and rapid combinations.

Her combat ability is portrayed as exceptional but human. She can break hard objects, evade attacks, and incapacitate armed criminals, although fear or concern for another person can sometimes interfere with her reactions.

Ran is also observant and possesses strong intuition. She is not a detective on Shinichi's level, but she has solved or contributed meaningfully to cases and repeatedly notices behavioral details that cause her to question Conan's identity.

Ran serves as Conan's closest connection to the ordinary life Shinichi lost after being poisoned. Agasa introduces Conan as a distant relative, and Ran agrees to care for him at the Mouri residence without knowing that the child is actually Shinichi.

Her father's detective agency consequently becomes Conan's base of operations. Ran accompanies Kogoro and Conan through hundreds of investigations, frequently becoming involved as a witness, potential victim, or active participant.

Ran repeatedly comes close to proving that Conan and Shinichi are the same person. Conan and his allies construct increasingly elaborate explanations to preserve the secret, largely because Shinichi fears that knowledge of his survival would make Ran a target of the Black Organization.

Shinichi Kudo is Ran's childhood friend and primary romantic interest. Their friendship dates back to childhood and gradually develops into an explicitly mutual romantic relationship.

Conan Edogawa lives with Ran and is treated by her much like a younger brother. Unknown to Ran, Conan is actually Shinichi, meaning many of the intimate conversations she has about missing Shinichi occur directly in front of him.

Kogoro Mouri is Ran's father. She loves him but regularly has to manage his drinking, gambling, laziness, and arguments with her mother.

Eri Kisaki is Ran's mother. Ran maintains a close relationship with Eri Kisaki despite her parents living separately and repeatedly tries to reconcile them.

Sonoko Suzuki has been Ran's close friend since childhood. Their different temperaments complement one another, and Sonoko Suzuki frequently teases Ran about Shinichi.

Kazuha Tooyama becomes another close friend through the cases connecting Tokyo and Osaka. Their similar romantic situations give Ran Mouri and Kazuha Tooyama considerable common ground.
