The death of Jiraiya leaves Naruto Uzumaki devastated, but his mentor’s coded final message may hold the key to defeating Pain. As Konoha studies the captured Pain body and investigates Jiraiya’s findings, Naruto accepts an invitation to train at Mount Myōboku.

Meanwhile, Sasuke Uchiha renames his team Taka and allies with Akatsuki. Their first assignment is to capture Killer B, the jinchūriki of the Eight-Tails. Sasuke’s new team quickly discovers that its target is an unconventional and extraordinarily dangerous opponent.

Naruto learns that Jiraiya was killed while investigating Pain. After struggling with grief, he helps decipher his mentor’s coded message, which states that the real Pain is not among the six bodies. Fukasaku invites Naruto to Mount Myōboku to learn senjutsu and prepare for Pain’s eventual attack.

Sasuke agrees to cooperate with Akatsuki and sends Taka after Killer B. The Eight-Tails jinchūriki overwhelms Suigetsu, Jūgo, and Sasuke with his unpredictable swordsmanship and Lightning Release. When Sasuke appears close to death, Karin and Jūgo use their abilities to save him.

Killer B releases the Eight-Tails and devastates Taka. Sasuke responds by awakening Amaterasu, subduing the beast and apparently completing the capture. However, Killer B secretly escapes by substituting part of the Eight-Tails’ body for himself.
