Naruto Vol. 27

Naruto awakens in Konoha after the failed retrieval mission and learns that his teammates survived their injuries. Sakura apologizes for placing the burden of her promise upon him, but Naruto insists that he will still bring Sasuke back. Sakura asks Tsunade to train her as a medical ninja, while Naruto agrees to leave the village with Jiraiya for an extended period of training.

The story shifts to the Third Great Ninja War, when a young Kakashi leads Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara on a mission to destroy the Kannabi Bridge. Kakashi prioritizes the mission after Rin is captured, but Obito rejects his decision and goes to rescue her. Remembering his father’s disgrace, Kakashi ultimately follows him and loses his left eye during the confrontation.

Obito awakens the Sharingan and helps rescue Rin, but a collapsing cave traps him beneath a boulder. Believing himself mortally wounded, he gives Kakashi his left Sharingan as a promotion gift. Kakashi and Rin escape with help from their teacher, the future Fourth Hokage, and complete the mission. In the present, Naruto departs Konoha with Jiraiya, bringing Part I to a close.
