Synopsis
Shohoku enters the fourth round of the Kanagawa Inter-High qualifiers against Tsukubu High, a disciplined team with personal connections to Shohoku's senior players. Tsukubu captain Tetsuya Godai is an old junior-high friend of Takenori Akagi and Kiminobu Kogure, while its coach once trained under Mitsuyoshi Anzai.
The game also creates an immediate rivalry between Hanamichi Sakuragi and Tsukubu center Koichiro Nango, an athletic show-off who becomes interested in Haruko Akagi. Set during the prefectural tournament, the anime-original film highlights Sakuragi's emerging rebounding ability and places Shohoku against opponents who understand its coaching philosophy.
