Synopsis
Following Shohoku's early practice game against Ryonan, Hanamichi Sakuragi and his teammates accept an exhibition match against Takezono High, a regular participant in the final rounds of the Kanagawa tournament. The encounter becomes personal when Sakuragi meets Takezono center Tatsumasa Oda, the basketball player admired by the girl who rejected Sakuragi during junior high school.
Oda regards Sakuragi as an unserious delinquent who disrespects basketball, while Sakuragi is determined to demonstrate his rapidly developing ability. The anime-original film expands a minor reference from the manga into a self-contained rivalry and is positioned early in the television series, before Shohoku's prefectural qualifying campaign.
