Paramecia is the broadest and most varied class. Its fruits can alter the user’s body, produce substances, manipulate surrounding matter, or impose specialized effects on people and objects. Examples include Nico Robin’s Hana Hana no Mi, which produces body parts on distant surfaces, and Trafalgar D. Water Law’s Ope Ope no Mi, which enables extraordinary spatial operations within a controlled area. The Mochi Mochi no Mi is officially designated a “Special Paramecia” because its properties closely resemble those of a Logia.

Zoan fruits allow users to transform into an animal and, ordinarily, an animal–human hybrid. Standard Zoans represent living species, Ancient Zoans reproduce prehistoric animals, and exceptionally rare Mythical Zoans grant forms based on legendary beings together with additional supernatural powers. Tony Tony Chopper, an animal who ate the Hito Hito no Mi, developed numerous specialized transformations beyond the usual three forms.

Logia fruits let users create, control, and transform their bodies into a natural element or phenomenon. This commonly makes ordinary physical attacks pass harmlessly through them, although Haki, Seastone, elemental incompatibilities, and other counters can overcome that defense. Notable examples include Portgas D. Ace’s Mera Mera no Mi, Crocodile’s Suna Suna no Mi, and Enel’s Goro Goro no Mi.

Eating even a small portion of a Devil Fruit is sufficient to transfer its power; the remaining fruit then becomes an ordinary, useless husk. A person normally cannot gain a second ability because consuming another Devil Fruit is understood to cause the user’s death. [Marshall D. Teach is the only confirmed person able to wield two Devil Fruit powers simultaneously, and the reason remains unexplained.](#spoiler)

When a user dies, the ability reappears in another fruit somewhere in the world. Smiley’s death demonstrates this process when a nearby apple transforms into the new Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl. Some fruits can therefore be identified and pursued through reference books that record their names, powers, and, in certain cases, appearances.

All users become severely weakened when sufficiently submerged in water, regardless of whether it is seawater or fresh water. They lose the strength needed to move effectively but do not necessarily cease possessing passive bodily changes. Seastone emits the same energy as the sea and can weaken users through direct contact, making it valuable for restraints, weapons, ships, and prison construction.

Haki provides another major countermeasure. Armament Haki allows an attacker to strike the substantive body of a Logia user, while sufficiently powerful Haki can resist or reverse certain abilities imposed by an opponent. It does not universally erase Devil Fruit powers, however, and combat still depends on the specific ability, the users’ skill, and environmental conditions.

The Gomu Gomu no Mi gives Monkey D. Luffy a rubber-like body resistant to blunt impacts and electricity. Its true identity is the Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which the World Government concealed by assigning it a false Paramecia name.

The Yami Yami no Mi allows Marshall D. Teach to produce and control darkness with powerful gravitational properties. Unlike most Logias, it does not make attacks pass harmlessly through its user, but it can nullify another Devil Fruit ability through direct contact. Teach also possesses [the Gura Gura no Mi formerly wielded by Edward Newgate, giving him the power to generate destructive vibrations and earthquakes](#spoiler).

The Ope Ope no Mi, used by Trafalgar D. Water Law, creates an operating space in which its user can rearrange, exchange, or manipulate targets. It is known as the “Ultimate Devil Fruit” because one of its techniques can grant another person perpetual youth at the cost of the user’s life.

Other historically influential abilities include Boa Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi, which petrifies susceptible targets; Brook’s Yomi Yomi no Mi, which returned his soul after death; and Bartholomew Kuma’s Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, which repels physical matter as well as intangible phenomena such as pain and memories.

Awakening occurs when a user’s mind and body catch up with the potential of the fruit, allowing its ability to operate at a higher level. It is rare, physically demanding, and expressed differently according to the fruit’s classification.

Awakened Paramecia powers can extend beyond the user’s body or original operating restrictions. Donquixote Doflamingo can transform his surroundings into string, while Charlotte Katakuri can convert nearby surfaces into mochi. Eustass Kid and Trafalgar D. Water Law similarly apply their abilities to external targets in ways unavailable through their standard techniques.

Awakened Zoans gain exceptional strength, endurance, and recovery. Their animal nature can overwhelm the user’s personality, as demonstrated by Impel Down’s Jailer Beasts, although some users retain their intelligence and identity. [Monkey D. No confirmed general pattern for Logia awakening has been formally explained.

Artificial Devil Fruits are scientific attempts to reproduce the effects of natural fruits through research into Lineage Factors. Dr. Vegapunk created a functional replica of Kaidou’s Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, although he considered it a failure because its dragon form was pink rather than azure. Kozuki Momonosuke later ate the replica and gained its transformative powers.

Caesar Clown developed the mass-produced Zoan fruits known as SMILEs for Donquixote Doflamingo and Kaidou. Only approximately ten percent of SMILE consumers gain animal traits; unsuccessful eaters still lose the ability to swim and become unable to express negative emotions normally, forcing them to smile and laugh regardless of their feelings.

Vegapunk also reproduced certain Paramecia abilities through Green Blood, a substance circulated through the Seraphim. Logia powers proved substantially harder to duplicate, although laser technology based on Borsalino’s Pika Pika no Mi successfully reproduces part of that fruit’s offensive capability.

Objects can also receive Zoan powers through an artificial process. Known examples include Spandam’s sword Funkfreed, which ate the Zou Zou no Mi, and the cannon Lassoo, which possesses the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Dachshund.

Devil Fruits are called treasures of the sea and may command immense prices in legal or criminal markets. Governments, pirate crews, intelligence agencies, and underworld brokers seek particular fruits for military, economic, or strategic purposes. The Ope Ope no Mi was valued at five billion berries, while the World Government repeatedly attempted to obtain the fruit publicly recorded as the Gomu Gomu no Mi.

Knowledge of Devil Fruits varies widely. Well-connected families and organizations possess encyclopedias describing known abilities, but isolated societies may regard users as sorcerers, spirits, or supernatural beings. Sanji learned about the Suke Suke no Mi from an encyclopedia, while Marshall D. Teach memorized the appearance of the Yami Yami no Mi and spent years searching for it.

Devil Fruits also shape international power. Marine admirals, the Four Emperors, revolutionary officers, and elite government agents frequently combine their abilities with advanced Haki and martial training. Nevertheless, figures such as Shanks and Silvers Rayleigh demonstrate that Devil Fruit ownership is not required to reach the highest levels of combat strength.
