Synopsis
Gintama: Yorinuki Gintama-san on Theater 2D comprises theatrical compilations of two established television storylines. The Shinsengumi Crisis Arc follows Toshiro Hijikata after a cursed sword alters his personality, leaving the Shinsengumi vulnerable to an internal struggle involving the ambitious Kamotaro Ito.
The Kabukicho Four Devas Arc centers on Gintoki Sakata and the Yorozuya as tensions among Kabukicho’s four dominant factions threaten the district and its residents. Both presentations condense previously broadcast episodes for large-screen exhibition rather than telling new stories within the franchise chronology.
Highlights
- The project consists of theatrical edits of television episodes 101–105 and 210–214.
- Sunrise produced the underlying animation for both the Shinsengumi Crisis and Kabukicho Four Devas storylines.
- The compilations were screened at selected Japanese theaters as part of the Yorinuki Gintama-san presentation project.
- A special screening event was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 on August 26, 2012.
- Unlike the franchise’s numbered animated features, these releases primarily re-edit existing television footage.
New Characters
No important characters make their franchise debut in these compilations; all central figures were introduced in the television episodes from which the theatrical edits were assembled.
