Synopsis
The troubled Tetsunosuke Sasaki, a younger son of the prestigious Sasaki family, is assigned to serve as page to Shinsengumi vice-commander Toshiro Hijikata. Although Tetsunosuke’s careless behavior initially provokes him, Hijikata recognizes aspects of his own rebellious youth in the directionless young man.
The situation escalates when Tetsunosuke is captured by an extremist Joi faction and becomes a pawn in the rivalry between the Shinsengumi and the elite Mimawarigumi led by Isaburo Sasaki. The film is a theatrical re-edit of the television anime’s Baragaki, or Thorny, Arc, supplemented with bonus footage rather than a new chronological story.
