Yosuga Mitsuzaki

Yosuga is calm, reserved and deeply uncertain about her own emotions. She often refers to herself in the third person and adds uncertainty to statements about what she thinks or feels.

Before meeting Toto, she feels that she has lost everything and wants to die. Their friendship changes that outlook, although the relationship develops around an unusual promise that each will eventually kill the other.

Her later behavior is driven by the question of whether what she feels for Toto is love. She recognizes similarities between her own reasons for returning to Deadman Wonderland and Ganta's unresolved feelings toward Shiro.

Yosuga is a Deadman with an unnamed defensive Branch of Sin. She shapes her blood into a broad shield capable of protecting herself or another person from attacks.

The ability is primarily defensive, fitting her later determination to protect Toto rather than defeat opponents through overwhelming force.

She is also able to use her blood in an attempt to aid Toto physically when he is critically injured.

Yosuga was already a prisoner of Deadman Wonderland before its closure, although she enters the main narrative much later. She had been arrested shortly after the Great Tokyo Earthquake for a crime she maintains she did not commit.

She meets Toto during their confinement and becomes the person he chooses to call his older sister. After Hagire overwrites Toto's consciousness, Yosuga loses the person she knew and falls back into despair.

Yosuga later joins Makina's expedition returning to Deadman Wonderland. After Ganta defeats Hagire in Toto's body, she tries to revive Toto so that the promise between them can still be fulfilled. She protects him with her Branch of Sin before Hagire kills her.

Toto Sakigami is Yosuga's closest companion. Although they are not biologically related and Toto is older, he calls her his older sister. They promise that they will eventually kill one another, and Yosuga later risks her life trying to restore and protect him.

Rinichirou Hagire takes control of Toto's body, separating Yosuga from the person she knew and later killing her when she protects Toto.

Kiwako Flügel Makina leads the expedition with which Yosuga returns to Deadman Wonderland.

Ganta Igarashi shares with Yosuga a conflicted reason for returning to the prison, and she recognizes similarities between their feelings.

Shiro is the person at the center of the unresolved relationship Yosuga compares with her own attachment to Toto.
