Kiwako Flügel Makina

Makina is severe, disciplined and quick to punish disobedience. Her military background shapes both her command style and her expectation that rules should apply consistently, even inside an institution as corrupt as Deadman Wonderland.

She is not comfortable being manipulated. Discovering facilities, personnel and activities that exist outside her authority turns her suspicion toward Tamaki, whose secrecy increasingly conflicts with her own understanding of her job.

Despite her harshness, Makina possesses moral boundaries that distinguish her from Tamaki. She can accept violence as punishment or necessity, but not the deliberate creation of suffering for entertainment and experimentation.

Makina is an ordinary human without a Branch of Sin. She compensates through military training, physical conditioning, command experience and exceptional skill with her sword.

She is strong enough to intimidate guards and prisoners alike and reacts rapidly when violence begins. Her preferred weapon is the decorated blade she carries constantly and uses without hesitation when enforcing prison discipline.

Later operations also place her in command of armed personnel and specialized equipment intended for confronting threats associated with Deadmen.

Makina initially represents the visible authority of Deadman Wonderland, punishing prisoners and managing its guards. Her understanding of the institution begins to fracture when she discovers that Tamaki controls secret sections and programs she has never been authorized to see.

She investigates independently and gradually uncovers G Ward, Carnival Corpse and Tamaki's larger projects. This puts her interests increasingly close to those of the prisoners she once treated solely as inmates.

Makina eventually breaks with the prison's existing leadership and organizes an infiltration force to expose and stop Tamaki. Her campaign brings her into direct cooperation with several Deadmen and former prisoners.

Tsunenaga Tamaki is Makina's principal rival within the prison administration. His secret projects and refusal to recognize her authority drive her investigation.

Ganta Igarashi begins as one of the prisoners under Makina's authority and later becomes an important ally against the forces controlling Deadman Wonderland.

Yō Takami later assists Makina and her allies with practical and technical work.

Karako Koshio cooperates with Makina during the wider campaign surrounding Deadman Wonderland.

Chan and En deny Makina access to Hagire, giving her an early indication that her authority over the prison is incomplete.
