Wraith

Wraith initially behaves like a confident hunter, exploiting the fact that most opponents cannot even perceive him. He enjoys confusing Natsu Dragneel with the unusual mechanics of spirit combat and quickly adapts when direct attacks do not produce the result he expects.

Beneath that antagonism lies considerable confusion about his own existence. Wraith has lost crucial memories of his past and incorrectly believes that an unknown killer is responsible for his condition, motivating his desire to accumulate power and seek revenge.

Spirit Dragon Slayer Magic gives Wraith properties associated with incorporeal spirits. He is normally invisible and inaudible to anyone who is neither a dragon nor a Dragon Slayer, can fly and phase through solid objects, and is immune to ordinary corporeal attacks while intangible. He can nevertheless make himself capable of physically striking opponents.

Wraith can manipulate souls through techniques such as Dragon Spirit and can separate a person's soul from the body. Possession allows him to inhabit another living being, with the resulting power depending on his synchronization with the host. He tests this ability on Happy before seeking a more powerful vessel.

Wraith participates in Diabolos's operation against the Wood Dragon God and singles out Natsu. His incorporeality initially gives him a decisive advantage because Natsu's physical and magical attacks pass through him. Natsu eventually learns to interact with Wraith on a spiritual level, transforming their confrontation into a fight between souls.

Wraith eventually possesses Makarov Dreyar and discovers an extraordinarily high synchronization rate. The connection restores memories he had lost: Wraith was once a Fairy Tail mage from Makarov's generation who suffered fatal injuries during a job rather than being murdered. Remembering his guild and understanding the truth of his death finally resolves the resentment that kept his spirit anchored to the world.

Natsu Dragneel is Wraith's principal opponent during the Wood Dragon God arc. Natsu's status as a Dragon Slayer allows him to perceive Wraith, and their battle ultimately helps expose the unresolved circumstances keeping Wraith's spirit from moving on.

Makarov Dreyar has a much deeper connection to Wraith than either initially remembers. Wraith belonged to Fairy Tail during Makarov's younger years, and possessing Makarov restores the memories necessary for him to recognize his former guildmate and his own past.

Happy becomes one of Wraith's temporary hosts during his fight with Natsu, although the body's limited combat strength makes it unsuitable for Wraith's purposes.

Porlyusica is connected to Wraith's forgotten past through the effort to treat the fatal injuries he suffered while he was still a Fairy Tail mage.

Skullion Raider, Kiria and Madmole are fellow Diabolos Dragon Eaters associated with Wraith's hunting unit.
