Shizuku

Shizuku is composed, observant, dutiful, and exceptionally practical. Among children surrounded by war, prophecy, and Yorishige's eccentricity, she often behaves like the person responsible for making sure everyone is fed, organized, informed, and prepared.

Her propriety has an unusual edge. The official anime profile notes that she is generally well behaved but occasionally says or does things startling enough to unsettle those around her. This dry unpredictability makes her a natural counterpart to Yorishige, whose much louder eccentricity she handles without difficulty.

Shizuku is intensely loyal to Tokiyuki without becoming blindly deferential. Her insight allows her to notice motives and dangers that the more combat-focused retainers may miss, and she can criticize plans when the risks outweigh the benefits. Her role becomes increasingly important as Tokiyuki's small group grows into a military and political organization.

Shizuku specializes in spiritual and support techniques rather than frontline sword combat. The official character profile states that she can manipulate divine power through secret arts, although her abilities are less extensive than Yorishige's.

Her greatest everyday strength is management. Shizuku handles household organization, logistics, planning, and supplies for the Elusive Warriors, making her effectively the steward of Tokiyuki's young retinue. Her sharp powers of observation also allow her to act as Yorishige's representative and provide battlefield support from behind the lines.

Shizuku's supernatural nature is eventually revealed to be far more unusual than that of an ordinary shrine maiden. She is a Mishaguji, a concentrated mass of divine power capable of producing miracles. Excessive use of that power threatens her continued existence, making her strongest abilities inseparable from serious personal risk.

Shizuku accompanies Yorishige during the rescue of Tokiyuki and becomes one of the earliest members of the group later known as the Elusive Warriors. Once Tokiyuki reaches Suwa, she provides much of the structure that allows him to live secretly while training for the future.

She rarely seeks personal glory in battle. Instead, Shizuku performs reconnaissance, interprets situations, handles supplies, delivers Yorishige's instructions, and supports the fighters whose strengths are more directly martial. The official profile explicitly identifies her as a rear-line supporter and Yorishige's proxy.

As Tokiyuki's campaigns expand beyond Suwa, Shizuku's divine nature becomes increasingly important to conflicts involving gods, spiritual power, and the limits of Yorishige's supernatural legacy. Her desire to remain beside Tokiyuki eventually becomes as important as the divine purpose for which she was created.

Yorishige Suwa is Shizuku's adoptive father and religious superior. She addresses him as "Father," manages many practical matters he neglects, and understands his divine abilities better than most people around him.

Tokiyuki Houjou is Shizuku's lord and the person around whom her duties increasingly center. She serves him as steward, adviser, and spiritual support while sharing the more personal closeness of the Elusive Warriors rather than behaving as a distant court official.

Kojirou Nezu and Ayako Mochizuki are the other original young retainers placed beside Tokiyuki, while Genba Kazama and Fubuki later expand the group. Shizuku frequently balances their more extreme personalities by keeping the household and missions organized.

Tokiyuki's later relationship with Shizuku grows beyond a purely feudal bond, and she ultimately chooses an ordinary human life beside him even when doing so requires exhausting the divine power that defines her supernatural existence.
