Saguru Hakuba

Hakuba is analytical, self-assured, formal, and exceptionally particular about details. He routinely records the exact time at which events occur and carries a highly accurate pocket watch, allowing him to reconstruct alibis and sequences of events down to seconds or fractions of seconds.

His confidence often becomes arrogance. He readily challenges other detectives and can be condescending toward investigators whose methods he considers careless, particularly Heiji. At the same time, Hakuba is generally courteous and adopts a gentlemanly manner around women.

Unlike detectives interested only in proving how a crime occurred, Hakuba places considerable importance on motive. He wants to understand why a culprit acted, not merely identify them.

Hakuba is an accomplished detective with strong deductive reasoning, observational ability, memory, and knowledge of forensic evidence. He claims to have solved approximately 500 cases in Japan alone, in addition to cases handled abroad.

His exceptional awareness of time is one of his defining investigative habits. He remembers precise timestamps and uses them when testing alibis or reconstructing criminal activity.

Hakuba is also skilled at billiards and has some experience with falconry. His investigative resources benefit from his family connections to Japanese law enforcement.

Hakuba originates in Magic Kaito, where he becomes a persistent teenage investigator of Kaitou Kid's crimes. His determination to identify and arrest the phantom thief repeatedly places him in direct competition with Kid.

In Detective Conan, Hakuba participates in the Twilight Mansion gathering of famous detectives and later joins the Detective Koushien, where several teenage detectives compete while investigating a case on an isolated island.

His presence gives Heiji another detective of comparable age to challenge. Their personalities clash immediately, with Hakuba criticizing Heiji's impulsiveness while Heiji responds poorly to Hakuba's polished confidence.

Kaito Kuroba is Hakuba's Ekoda High School classmate. Hakuba frequently analyzes Kaito Kuroba's behavior while pursuing Kaitou Kid.

Heiji Hattori is a fellow teenage detective and one of Hakuba's strongest investigative rivals. Their contrasting personalities produce frequent arguments.

Conan Edogawa encounters Hakuba during major detective gatherings and recognizes his considerable deductive ability.

Aoko Nakamori is Hakuba's classmate, and Hakuba has openly flirted with her.

Akako Koizumi is another of Hakuba's classmates at Ekoda High School.

Ginzo Nakamori frequently encounters Hakuba through their shared pursuit of Kaitou Kid.
