Kaito Kuroba

Kaito is confident, theatrical, mischievous, and highly competitive. He loves magic and practical jokes and often performs tricks casually at school. As Kid, that same showmanship becomes part of his criminal identity: he issues advance notices, stages spectacular entrances, and treats police pursuit almost like a performance.

He follows a personal code that distinguishes him from violent criminals. Kaito generally avoids deliberately injuring people and has repeatedly interrupted his own objectives when someone is endangered.

One conspicuous weakness is his intense fear of fish. The otherwise composed thief can lose his nerve almost instantly when confronted with one, particularly when Aoko Nakamori exploits the phobia.

Kaito is an exceptional magician specializing in sleight of hand, misdirection, escapology, disguise, and impersonation. He can reproduce another person's appearance and voice with remarkable accuracy, frequently infiltrating heavily guarded locations by replacing someone already inside.

His principal Kid equipment includes a white hang glider concealed beneath his cape, card guns, smoke devices, explosives used for distraction, and numerous magician's tools. He combines these devices with extensive advance preparation to bypass elaborate security systems.

Kaito is also highly intelligent and improvisational. He can identify traps, solve mysteries, memorize detailed information, and alter a heist plan almost instantly when Conan discovers his original method.

Kaitou Kid enters Detective Conan as an internationally notorious thief targeted by Inspector Ginzo Nakamori. Conan initially treats the theft of the Black Star pearl as a challenge and becomes one of the few opponents capable of consistently exposing Kid's methods.

Their encounters develop into a recurring rivalry. Kid seeks increasingly unusual gems while Conan attempts to identify his disguises and prevent his escape. Neither treats the other like an ordinary criminal adversary, and circumstances occasionally force them to cooperate.

Kaito inherited the Kaitou Kid identity after discovering that his father Toichi had secretly been the original Kid. In Magic Kaito, Kaito uses the identity to investigate the circumstances surrounding his father's apparent death and the criminal organization connected to it.

Aoko Nakamori is Kaito's childhood friend and romantic interest. Aoko Nakamori despises Kaitou Kid without realizing that Kaito is the thief she wants her father to capture.

Chikage Kuroba is Kaito's mother and knows considerably more about the world of phantom thieves than her everyday behavior initially suggests.

Ginzo Nakamori is Aoko's father and the police inspector most determined to capture Kaitou Kid. Kaito regularly evades Ginzo Nakamori while interacting with him normally outside his disguise.

Conan Edogawa is Kaito's principal Detective Conan rival. The two repeatedly expose one another's tricks and plans, but they also cooperate when a greater threat appears.

Saguru Hakuba is a teenage detective determined to prove Kaito's connection to Kaitou Kid and serves as another intellectual rival.

Akako Koizumi is Kaito's classmate and takes a strong romantic interest in him despite his resistance to her advances.
