Richie

Richie is food-motivated, easily distracted and not especially intelligent. Scenes that appear to show serious thought often reveal that he is imagining something to eat.

He can be aggressive when directed by Mohji or when food is involved. His hostility is not presented with the deliberate malice shown by human members of the crew, but its consequences are still destructive.

Richie adapts readily to the Buggy Pirates’ group behavior. He celebrates, travels and competes for food alongside them, functioning as a crew member rather than an ordinary pet.

Richie possesses the natural strength, claws, teeth and speed of a lion exaggerated to the scale of the series. He can demolish a building, overpower Chouchou and carry Mohji on his back.

He has no Devil Fruit, Haki or named supernatural power. Mohji directs him in combat, although Richie’s appetite and limited attention make that control imperfect.

Richie is durable enough to survive a powerful kick from Luffy and continue accompanying the crew afterward. He also defeats the exhausted Mohji and Cabaji while sleepwalking, though the result is accidental.

Richie appears during the Orange Town arc when Mohji brings him to kill the captive Luffy. The lion breaks open Luffy’s cage but swallows the key, complicating Luffy’s escape.

He then attacks Chouchou, consumes the stock of the pet-food shop and destroys the building. Luffy responds by defeating Richie and Mohji.

In Buggy’s cover story, Richie sleepwalks through Mohji and Cabaji’s leadership duel and knocks both unconscious. The crew interprets the scene as victory and temporarily appoints Richie captain.

Richie later travels with the Buggy Pirates through Loguetown and into the Grand Line. He remains associated with Buggy’s enlarged organization after the crew reunites with its captain.

Mohji is Richie’s handler and combat partner. Mohji relies on the lion’s power, though Richie does not always understand or prioritize his instructions.

Buggy is Richie’s captain. Richie temporarily occupies the same title while Buggy is separated from the crew, but he relinquishes it upon their reunion.

Cabaji competes with Mohji for leadership and is accidentally defeated by Richie alongside him.

Chouchou fights Richie to defend his owner’s shop. Monkey D. Luffy defeats Richie after witnessing the shop’s destruction.
