Rekka Hoshimiya

Rekka is intensely energetic, confident and expressive. He throws himself into combat with enthusiasm and applies the same attitude to training younger Fire Soldiers, loudly pushing them to overcome hesitation.

His interactions with Takeru Noto illustrate the apparently encouraging side of his personality. Rather than dismissing Takeru's anxiety about his own destructive ability, Rekka pushes him to recognize its usefulness and gives him the nickname Juggernaut.

That motivational persona conceals extreme fanaticism. Rekka is willing to subject innocent people, including children, to horrific danger in pursuit of the Evangelist's objectives. His apparent warmth can therefore function as a mask for a far more ruthless commitment.

Rekka is a Third Generation pyrokinetic specializing in close-quarters combat. He creates powerful flames around his fists and uses them to amplify punches rather than relying primarily on long-range fire.

Star Fist Punch is his signature technique, combining physical force with concentrated flame. His conditioning, aggression and durability make him dangerous even against opponents capable of manipulating his flames.

Rekka's fighting style reflects his personality: direct, relentless and forceful. He continues attacking through pain and prefers overwhelming opponents through repeated close-range pressure.

Rekka initially appears as one of Company 1's lieutenants during the joint training assignment. His energetic mentoring of Takeru and easy familiarity with his fellow officers present him as one of the brigade's most charismatic senior Fire Soldiers.

Company 8's investigation eventually reveals Rekka as the operative responsible for creating artificial Infernals with Bugs. He searches for people compatible with an Adolla Burst, testing victims on behalf of the Evangelist while using Company 1 as cover.

[Tamaki Kotatsu discovers his activities and is violently attacked when she attempts to intervene. Shinra subsequently confronts Rekka, while Karim uses his cooling ability to restrain his former friend. Rekka is then struck by Arrow before he can be interrogated about the White-Clad.](#spoiler)

Karim Flam is one of Rekka's closest long-time companions in Company 1. Karim's discovery of Rekka's crimes turns their friendship into one of the most painful consequences of the Company 1 investigation.

Huo Yan Li is another long-time friend and fellow Company 1 officer, forming a trio with Rekka and Karim Flam.

Leonard Burns is Rekka's captain in Company 1.

Tamaki Kotatsu admires Rekka as a superior early in the story. Her discovery of his actions destroys that trust and places her directly in danger.

Shinra Kusakabe becomes Rekka's principal opponent after discovering his activities beneath Company 1.

Takeru Noto receives enthusiastic encouragement from Rekka during training and is given the nickname Juggernaut by him.
